Revised Syllabus Post Graduate Course in Ancient Indian History Culture and Archaeology Introduced from June 2008

MANUSCRIPTOLOGY DIPLOMA Syllabus for the certificate course in Manuscriptology. 1. The duration of the certificate course in Manuscriptology shall be one academic year of two terms of fourteen weeks each. 2. The teaching for the certificate course shall be five hours per week 3. A graduate in any subject or a Manuscriptology or SSC having minimum ten years experience as a lib arian or working in a museum in a recognized institution shall be eligible for admission to the certificate course in Manuscriptology. 4. The certificate course examination shall be held once a year at the end of the second term. 5. The examination for the certificate course shall consist of 4 papers of hundred marks. The paper I, II & III shall be of three hourse duration, carring hundred marks each. Paper IV shall consist of two parts : (1) Textual Criticism of 50 marks and Practical of 50 marks. 6. To pass the Certificate course examination, a candidate must obtain 40% of the total marks in each head of passing and 50% of the total marks in aggregate and shall be placed in Second Class. Those of the successful candidates who obtain 60% of the total shall be placed in First Class. 7. Classes for the course shall be held at the Center of Dept. of A.I.H.C. A in Solapur University. 8. Fees for the Certificate Course shall be as follows : a) Admission fee : Rs. b) Tuition Fees : Rs. c) Library Fee : Rs. d) Practical Fee : Rs. e) Examination Fees : Rs. 9. The syllabus for the certificate course shall be as follows :

Paper I : Broad outline of Social, Cultural and Political History of India up to 1800 A.D. History of Indian Languages and literature (only broad acquaintance with social, cultural and political history of ancient and medieval India is expected.)

: Manuscripts : their forms and content Definition and law of manuscript writing material - palm leaf, birch bark, paper etc. Form of Manuscript - e.g. size, margin, lines numbering, paintings, unconventional forms etc. Parts of Manuscript - Cover, hinding, rectoverso, prasasti, chapter endings, colophones, scribal remarks, marginalia. Style of composition of Manuscripts - running texts, text and commentary, sub. commentary etc. Contents - forms of literature, subject and language, illustrations. Manuscripts collection, preservation and cataloguing. Historical survey and current practices, Government attitude. Book Recommended
