Directions
Ths s a mock usabty test n whch you are supposed to gauge the usabty
of Blue%oda. Undergo the exercse, notng the dffcutes, probems, and
chaenges that confront you as you go aong. You w probaby encounter
smar stuatons when you conduct your own test.

The purpose of ths test s to determne the usabty of the Blue%oda.

The purpose of ths test s to determne whether a novce user can create a
persona profe. We woud ke to fnd out whether a novce user:

7. Insert content

The target partcpant may be mae or femae, coege eve preferaby
computer reated courses. S/he shoud be abe to operate a computer but
shoud have tte or no pror experence n usng Blue%oda.
Met*odolo+y
For ths partcuar test, the group must assgn peope to pay the foowng
roes:
Test monitor. Ths s the person responsbe for admnsterng the test. The
test sub|ect w ony nteract wth the test montor. The test sub|ect w not
nteract wth any other member of the group.
Three data loggers. The data ogger takes notes regardng the test sub|ects
performance durng the test and durng the debrefng. These sectons w be
dscussed n greater deta ater. Data oggers w aso have to take the roe
of tmers.
$est &rocess
The test process s dvded nto 5 sectons: orentaton, gatherng of
background nformaton, testng and data coecton, post-testng, and
debrefng.
Orientation
The test process usuay begns wth a screenng questonnare. However,
because you are brngng your own test sub|ects, we wont be abe to screen
them anymore. We assume that they ft the crtera. The partcpant w be
brefed foowng an orentaton scrpt (see Blue%oda). Fee free to add other
orentaton nformaton that you thnk the test sub|ects w need.
Gathering of background information
As part of the orentaton, the test montor w ntervew the partcpant to
gather some background nformaton (see Bac!+round In)ormation
,uestionnaire).
Testing and data collection
The test montor shoud ensure that Blue%oda s aready runnng and s
actve on screen. Ask the partcpant st n front of a computer, besde the
test montor.
Foowng the drectons (see Directions )or t*e &articipant), the
partcpant w create a persona profe usng Blue%oda.
1. Usng the Data Collection Instrument -, one observer w perodcay
record the sub|ects affectve state.
2. Usng Data Collection Instrument ., the second observer w note
a. How ong t took for the partcpant to compete the task.
b. Whether the task was competed successfuy / unsuccessfuy.
c. Any probems or ssues that arose.
3. Usng Data Collection Instrument 3, one observer w perodcay
record whether the sub|ect s on-task or off-task.
Post-testing
After the partcpant competes a the tasks, s/he w be asked to answer the
post-test questonnare (see &ost/test). The purpose of the post-test s to
determne whether the software was ndeed usabe or not.
Debriefing
After the post-test, the partcpant w be ntervewed the foowng debrefng
questons (see De#rie)in+ ,uestions). The purpose of ths secton s to
gather quatatve data regardng the partcpant's experence. Once agan,
the partcpant w be encouraged to expound on hs/her answers. The data
ogger w take down the partcpants responses to the debrefng questons.

The quanttatve and quatatve data w be summarzed and reported.
Recommendatons and suggestons for mprovement w be made based on
the fndngs of the test.
