Daniel Globig Jesus and the Spirit in Luke

PNB14.0

Luke mentions the role of the Spirit much more in relation to Jesus than the other evangelists. Here, he adds further references to the coming of the Spirit at Jesus baptism (4:1 *twice+, 14). Read Luke 1-4 and note the various activities of the Spirit there.
John will be filled with the Holy Spirit (1.15) The H.S. will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God 1.35 Elizabeth was filled with the H.S. and she cried out with a loud voice 1.41-42 Zacharias was filled with the H.S., and prophesied, saying - 1.67 And it had been revealed to him by the H.S. that he would not see death before he had seen the Lords Christ. And he came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to carry out the custom of the Law - 2.26-27 He will baptize you with the H.S. and fire 3.16 And the H.S. descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased. 3.22 Jesus, full of the H.S., returned from the Jordan and was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And He ate nothing during those days, and when they had ended, He became hungry. 4.1-2 o The H.S. apparently led Jesus around and also sustained his hunger until the wandering had ended Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about Him spread 4.14 Entered the synagogue opened the book and found the place The spirit of the Lord is upon me Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing 4.17-21

Two theories about this portrait are: (a) the Spirit is the Spirit of prophecy, in line with OT and Jewish teaching that the Spirit principally inspires speech, and the Spirit does not have ethical influence or produce miracles; and (b) at his baptism, the Spirit begins Jesus a new experience of Gods kingdom and his own divine sonship. How far do you think the evidence supports these views? These theories are so vaguely stated it would be very hard to defend either claim. Obviously, the first cannot be correct, because the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is a miracle itself So the Spirit cannot only inspire speech. Also, to be drunk in the Holy Spirit means to be completely influenced by the power and the ethical influence of the Holy Spirit. Also, the Holy Spirit is obviously at the beginning of Jesus new experience. The Holy Spirit descended on Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven saying, You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased. (3.22) As the Holy Spirit is publicly present, in this instance, it is perfectly plausible to claim the Holy Spirit is part of Christs new experience of divine sonship. This is when God publicly proclaimed, You are My beloved Son However, the Holy Spirit cannot ever be summed up by some simple theories.
