Chandler2 Will Chandler #n$lish III Mrs. Staten 2 April! 2"11 The Information of Senate Bill #8

Senate %ill #8 &ill $i'e charter schools f(ndin$ for ser'ices the) do not pro'ide! and this is not fair for p(%lic schools &ho pro'ide these ser'ices. Senate %ill #8 is a %ill a%o(t charter schools and p(%lic schools. It &ants all the mone) that the p(%lic schools ma*e to share &ith the Charter schools e'en if the Charter school doesn+t pro'ide these ser'ices. I feel that is &ron$ to the P(%lic schools that (se there time and mone) or these ser'ices and don+t $et the f(ll mone) on it.

Charter schools ha'e tended to attract lo& income! minorit)! and lo& performin$ st(dents. The) ha'e a small amo(nt of *ids fe&er than 2"" st(dents! %(t there are (s(all) more st(dents on the &aitin$ list than enrolled in the schools. There are onl) ,-! , st(dents enrolled in .orth Carolina. Minn. &as the first state to pass a charter school la& in 1//1. Then almost e'er) state follo&ed them in the 0nited States. .o& 1" states and the district of Col(m%ia ha'e charter school la&s in place. Charter schools and %oard of directors no& m(st compl) &ith Mn. opera meetin$ la&. Charter schools often feat(re a charter ed(cation parents &or* to %(ild at home. Critics &ere scared that charter schools &o(ld l(re the hi$hest performin$ st(dents from centrall) administrated p(%lic schools. The) made it &here charter schools are open to all &ho appl) to them.

Chandler, 2a&s are made for teacher teachin$ in charter schools! the) ha'e to %e hi$hl) 3(alified (nder ..C.I.B. All the st(dent m(st ta*e the C.S.A.P. The charter schools are (nder the federal no child left %ehind act. Charter schools are not allo&ed to char$e t(ition.

There are no re3(irements to $et into a p(%lic schools! %(t )o( ha'e to ta*e a test to $et into a charter school. In a recent s(r'e) more than / percent of charter schools are not testin$ to $et in. There test are a%o(t three times harder than a p(%lic school test.

884 of all st(dent in the 0nited States are enrolled in p(%lic schools. P(%lic schools ha'e more *ids in them so that+s &here most *ids &ant to $o to school %eca(se all of there friends are there. P(%lic schools do all )o(r transportation and all )o(r meals all can %e for free. 0nli*e a charter school the) ha'e to pa) for there meals and the) ha'e to pro'ide there o&n transportation and the) &ant to $et mone) from the p(%lic schools that &or* hard at that st(ff! are there j(st s(ppose to $i'e (p part of that mone) to another or$ani5ation. To me that is &ron$ I feel that )o( sho(ld &or* for &hat )o( $et and not $et in handed o'er for no &or* at all. All local schools are administered %) local school %oards! &hich operates p(%lic primar) and secondar) schools &ithin their %o(ndaries. Most p(%lic schools are normall) split (p into three sta$es elementar) school! middle school! and hi$h school.

The pro+s of $oin$ to a p(%lic school is that all )o(r friends are there. 6o( can $et all )o(r meals there and not ha'e to &orr) a%o(t it. 6o( onl) ha'e to %e at school for 8 ho(rs a da). The pro+s of $oin$ to a charter schools are that the teachers are %etter than most of the p(%lic schools teachers and the) $et paid more. 6o( learn more %eca(se there aren+t as man) st(dents in the class rooms so the) can ma*e s(re all the st(dents *no&

Chandler1 &hat the) need to learn. The con+s of $oin$ to a p(%lic school are that )o( don+t learn as m(ch as )o( &o(ld at a charter school. There is (s(all) a p(%lic school 'er) close to &here )o( li'e (nli*e a charter school &here it co(ld %e an ho(r to the nearest charter. A pro of a charter school is )o( don+t ha'e to %e there at 871" in the mornin$ )o( ha'e )o( ha'e to %e there aro(nd /71".

The salar) is &a) less for a teacher at a p(%lic school than a pri'ate school! %eca(se )o( ha'e to %e smarter to teach at a charter school and the) pa) )o( more for %ein$ smarter. In p(%lic schools all )o( ha'e to do is $o to colle$e and )o( ha'e to %e an assistant teacher for a little &hile. 6o(r st(dents are not as disaplend and )o( don+t ma*e as m(ch mone) so )o( sho(ld %e a charter school teacher. Beca(se there are less st(dents there are less fi$hts and less pre$nancies. B(t it all comes do&n to the fact that p(%lic school teachers don+t ma*e as m(ch mone) so all the charter schools sho(ldn+t $et the mone) that the p(%lic school teachers reall) need.
