Basic Bucket Hat

Start with a magic ring. Sc 8 into ring. Do not join any rounds. *Sc 2 into ea sc* around. (16) *Sc 2 in next sc, sc in next sc* around. (24) *Sc 2 in next sc, sc in next 2 sc* around.(32) *Sc 2 in next sc, sc in next 3 sc* around. (40) Continue increasing in this manner until hat is of appropriate diameter to fit wearer (if edges start to ruffle slightly, add a row of sc before next row of increases), then sc around even until hat is about "-" shorter than desired. *Sc 2 in next sc, sc in next 7 sc* around. *Sc 2 in next sc, sc in next 8 sc* around. Continue increasing in this manner until brim is of desired length. Tie off and weave in ends.

LIttle brimmed hat FREE PATTERN!

So here goes another attempt at a free pattern! I have done this one also in grey with no contrasting color and it is just as cute! Try doing the brim working in the front row only, makes it stick out a bit more. This hat is just too cute on. I'm going to try to do some with flowers and in girly colors too! Let me know if there are any problems with this pattern. THanks for looking! Materials: variegated yarn solid color yarn in matching color. 2 buttons

Hook size: G Guage 11dc and 9 rows=4" (approx) with variegated yarn ch 2 1. 7sc in first ch 2. 2sc in each of 7sc. Place marker. (14sc) 3.2sc in next st. sc in nect st continue around to marker. move marker (21sc) 4. 2sc in next st. sc in next 2 st. continue around to marker. Move marker (28sc) 5. ch2. dc in same st as ch2. dc in next 3 sts. *2dc in next sc. dc in next 3 sts.* continue around. join with sl st to top of ch 2. (35 dc) place marker. This is the BACK of the hat. 6. ch2. dc in same st as ch2. dc in next 4 sts. *2dc in next sc. dc in next 4 sts.* continue around. join with sl st to top of ch 2. (42 dc) 7. ch2. dc in same st as ch2. dc in next 5 sts. *2dc in next sc. dc in next 5 sts.* continue around. join with sl st to top of ch 2. (49 dc) 8. ch 2. dc in same st and each stitch around. join with sl st to top of ch 2. Continue in pattern 6 more rows. Fasten off. BRIM 1. using contrasting color attach yarn 16st from back of hat.ch 2. dc in same st and dc 17 sts across fron of hat.ch 1 turn.

2. sc2tog sc all the way across to the last 2 sts. sc2tog. ch1. turn 3.sc2tog. sc all the way accross to the last 2 sts. sc2tog. sc again in the last st. 4. work 2 sc evenly down the side of brim, sc around the base of hat to opposite side of brim. work 2 sc evenly up side of brim and across front of brim. sl st down side of brim and fasten off, weaving in ends. STRAP ch26

DC in fourth ch from hook. dc across to first ch. ch 3 and attach to first ch of foundation row. Fasten off. Sew evenly on to hat over brim and attach buttons using darning needle.

PREEMIE HAT

INSTRUCTIONS for Preemie Hat Note: Hats in picture are using different variations of switching yarn colors around. Instructions are for a hat worked in two colors with the bottom few rounds worked in a second color for a roll up brim.

Using color A ch 4, join with slip st in 4th ch from hook to form a ring. Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as a dc in this and all rounds), dc in ring, ch 1, *[2 dc in ring, ch 1] 5 times; join with a slip st in top of beg ch-3. (12 dc, 6 ch-1 sps)

Round 2: Ch 3, Fpdc around next st, Fpdc around same dc that you did the Fpdc around, dc in ch-1 sp, *(dc in next st, Fpdc around next st, Fpdc around same dc that you did the Fpdc around, dc in ch-1 sp)* repeat from * to * around; join with slip st in top of beg ch-3. Make sure you did the last dc in the last ch-1 sp. (12 dc, 12 Fpdc)

Round 3: Ch 3, dc in same st, dc in next st, *2 dc in next st, dc in next st,* repeat from * to *,join with slip st in top of beg ch-3. (36 dc)

Round 4: Ch 3, Fpdc around next st, *dc in next st, Fpdc around st,* repeat from * around; join

with slip st to top of beg ch-3. (18 Fpdc, 18 Dc)

Round 5: Slip st into next st, Ch 3, dc in each st around, join with slip st in top of beg ch-3. Make sure you did the last dc in the stitch that you skipped at the beginning of the round. (36 dc)

Round 6: Ch 3, Fpdc around next st, *dc in next st, Fpdc around next st,* repeat from * around; join with slip st to top of beg ch-3. (18 Fpdc, 18 Dc)

For a hat without a roll up brim: Round 7 thru 10: Repeat rounds 5 and 6 at least twice time, if you prefer a longer hat repeat round 5 and 6 an additional time then go to Preemie Final Round.

For a roll up hat: Round 7 thru 12: Finish off color A after Round 6, join color B with a slip st in any FPDC . Repeat round 5 and 6 at least 3 more times, if you prefer a longer hat repeat round 5 and 6 an additional time then go to Preemie Final Round.

Preemie Final Round: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in each st around; join with slip st to top of beg sc. Finish off. (36 Sc) See pom-pom, flowers or bow pattern below.

NEWBORN BALLCAP

I've made many ballcaps using a light weight baby yarn, however I wanted to use a worsted weight yarn. I adapted the pattern to compensate for the different yarn and wanted to share the end result. I haven't had this pattern tested, hopefully it is clear and error-free. Please contact me if you find any problems with it or have difficulties understanding the directions. Enjoy

DESIGNED BY Helen Heaverin SKILL LEVEL Easy FINISHED SIZE Newborn FINISHED MEASUREMENTS 13.5 GAUGE 8 dc and 5 rows = 2 MATERIALS Caron Simply Soft 3 oz. (85 g) skein 1 skein Soft Blue (makes approx. 2 caps) Size F/5/3.75 mm crochet hook or size to obtain gauge Tapestry needle Stitch markers SPECIAL STITCHES Front Post Double Crochet (fpdc): YO, insert hook from front to back around post of dc on previous rnd. Complete same as regular dc. Beginning Double Crochet Decrease (beg dc dec): Ch 2, dc in next dc, (counts as 1 dc). PATTERN NOTES Beg Ch-3 counts as dc. Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc in each of next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc, fpdc in next fpdc, *skip next dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in each of next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, (dc, fpdc) in next fpdc, rep from * around, join: 48 sts. Rnd 5: Ch 3, dc in same st, dc in each of next 6 dc, fpdc in next fpdc, *2 dc in next dc, dc in each of next 6 dc, fpdc in next fpdc, rep from * around, join: 54 sts. With RS facing, join yarn with sc in 6th st from marker on the right side; Row 1: Sc in each of next 16 dc, turn: 17 sc. (this leaves 4 dc between marker and last sc) Row 2: Ch 1, sc in next sc, *2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, rep from * across, sc in each of next 2 dc of hat, turn. Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each sc across brim, sc on the side of previous rnd on the side of brim, sc in each of next 2 dc of hat, turn.
