OLEV

Road-Embedded Rechargers

KAIST are experimenting with embedding electric strips in roadbeds that magnetically transfer energy to battery-powered vehicles

Wireless Charger

Wireless charging pad A charging station sends energy through inductive coupling to an electric device, which stores the energy in the battery

Wireless Energy Transfer

Intel demonstrated their new technology for wireless transmission of power which uses magnetic induction to transmit power without cables. It showed a power loss of only 25% when lighting a 60 W light bulb over a distance of two feet [2008]

Contactless Smart Card

A contactless smart card is a card in which the chip communicates with the card reader through an induction technology similar to that of an RFID (at data rates of 106 to 848 kbit/s).

NFC
NFC, allows for simplified transactions, data exchange, and wireless connections between two devices in close proximity to each other.

Two coils system Single coil : Inductor, Magnetic field Two coils : Induction, Magnetic coupling Inductive coupling, Magnetic induction

Single coil
A loop or coil of conductive material like copper, carrying an alternating current (AC), is a very efficient structure for generating or capturing or storaging magnetic field.

Fig. 1 An inductor, simply a loop or loops of conducting wire Single coil : Inductor, Magnetic field

Two coils : Magnetic Coupling

If a conductive loop is connected to an AC power source, it will generate an oscillating magnetic field in the vicinity of the loop. A second conducting loop, brought close enough to the first, may capture some portion of that oscillating magnetic field, which in turn, generates or induces an electric current in the second coil.
