The student 3 o"ser!ed is in the +irst /rade$ "ecause o+ this many methods that hel( ELL students are already used. 3 o"ser!ed a (honic lesson where the class did a wor4sheet. The directions were read to the class$ each -uestion was accom(anied "y a (icture$ and the teacher went o!er each (icture with the class and made sure all the students 4new what the (icture was o+$ and the +irst cou(le o+ -uestions were answered as a class 5 all stratie/ies that would hel( an ELL student +ollow alon/. These are all e++ecti!e and the class did not stru//le with the wor4sheet.

The ELL student is !ery shy$ she was so so+t s(o4en 3 stru//led to hear her s(ea4 when she answered a -uestion$ that is not com(letely out o+ the ordinary "ut other than that 3 did not notice any "eha!iors that were out o+ the ordinary in her or the other students.

3 did not see the ELL student interact with the other students "ecause the entire time 3 was o"ser!in/ the class$ they were doin/ whole /rou( instruction and wor4in/ indi!idually$ there was no chance +or students to interact. She was com+orta"le interactin/ with the teacher. She raised her hand multi(le times and as4ed +or hel( when she did not 4now what the (icture was showin/.

The only material 3 saw "ein/ used was a (honics wor4sheet. The +irst side o+ the wor4sheet had a (icture and the students had to (ic4 the correctly s(elled word that went with the (icture. The other side o+ the wor4sheet had a (icture and students had to choose a sentence that "est descri"ed what was ha((enin/ in the (icture. The ELL students seemed to +ollow alon/. She seemed to "e stru//lin/ when she read one o+ the sentences.

The classroom en!ironment does seem to "e com+orta"le +or the ELL students. The classroom is in!itin/$ there is student wor4 dis(layed all around it and the way the des4s are set u( allows +or students to communicate and wor4 coo(erati!ely when as4ed to. 3 came to my decision a"out the en!ironment when 3 saw how com+orta"le not only the ELL student$ "ut all o+ the students were com+orta"le tal4in/ -uietly to the student ne7t to them$ wal4in/ around the classroom$ and as4in/ -uestions.

The ELL student has "een in the country a cou(le o+ years and is com+orta"le s(ea4in/ En/lish. She is not a+raid to s(ea4 and raises her had a lot and answers when called on$ althou/h as mentioned "e+ore she is !ery so+t s(o4en. 3 thin4 she is at sta/e 6 5 intermediate +luency$ "ut mi/ht still "e at sta/e #$ as 3 mentioned "e+ore she was hard to hear. She does s(ea4 and can read En/lish$ which is why 3 decided on this le!el.

The coo(eratin/ teachin/ told me that the only 4ind o+ accomodations made are that the ELL student recie!es modi+ied tests$ and that twice a wee4 an ESL teacher comes into the classroom to hel( her with her school wor4. The modi+ied tests a((ear on the chec4list. 2nother thin/ the coo(eratin/ teacher told me a"out the ELL student is that she can actually read !ery well. She will sound out words and does read (retty well$ althou/h when as4ed what she read she cannot say$ and does not com(rehend what she reads.
