December 2013 Student in the Spotlight USA Test PREP: Online preparation for the ACT Test
Last year GLHS was awarded a $1500 grant from DFCU Financial for a year subscription to an online student test preparation site for the ACT test. The USA TestPrep website allows each student to login to a unique student account, and practice each of the 4 components of the ACT test (English, Reading, Math & Science). The website tracks each student's progress and gives practice problems that correspond to his/her needs. Teachers are also able to work with students and view their progress. Every student was sent login information to his/her school email account on Wednesday, September 11, 2013. To access your login information, go to your school Gmail account. 1. Go to http://www.mail.google.com. 2. Enter in your email address (logon@glps.k12.mi.us For example, tr12026@glps.k12.mi.us) 3. Enter in your computer login password (6 capital letters) 4. Find the email from USA Test Prep that has your login information. 5. To login go to: http://www.usatestprep.com/Member-Login 6. Enter in the login information you received (Account ID, Username and Password) 7. Click on the "LOGIN AS A MEMBER" button as your account has already been created for you.
Each month we recognize a Lions Club Student of the Month. The student must be a senior, model for others, and someone that has contributed to the high school in a variety of ways. We attempt to select students that are not usually recognized and since we are allowed only eight seniors per year, it is imperative that we select confident, creditable ambassadors. Diana Thompson was our November Lion's Club Student of the Month. Congratulations Diana!
AP Honor Roll
Grand Ledge High School is one of 477 schools in the U.S. and Canada (31 in Michigan) to be named to this year's AP Honor Roll. The honor roll "recognizes schools that simultaneously achieved increases in access to Advanced Placement (AP) courses for a broader number of students and also maintained or improved the rate at which their AP students earned scores of 3 or higher on an AP exam". Last year 200 GLHS students took at least one AP exam and 81% of them earned scores of 3 or higher!! This is the second time in the four year history of the AP Honor Roll that GLHS has been recognized. Proud to be a Comet!
