Part III Self Assessment (45-60 minutes) 1. Your preparation for this assessment contributed to a successful performance.

Although I was quite nervous for this assessment, I prepared for it by reviewing the theorists I expected I would be relating to the video. I made sure to fill my analytic spreadsheet with a lot of examples of the teacher standards and Alverno abilities. Your preparation was thoughtful and detailed. On your spreadsheet, you wrote concise definitions of the Wisconsin Teaching Standards and the graduate education abilities. You also wrote detailed notes on multiple theories. It was apparent during the discussion that you were referring to written notes as well. As a result, you made specific references to the abilities, the standards, and the theories in your memo. During the discussion, you shared specific references to the theories and the abilities, thus demonstrating your own understanding, and e tending the thin!ing of the others in your group. Your preparation clearly contributed to your successful performance on this assessment. Self Assessor Inadequate Inadequate !merging !merging x $ "roficient "roficient #istinctive #istinctive

%. Your memo ma&es effective connections among 'I (eacher standards, graduate education abilities, and theoretical framewor&s that inform your preparation and practice in establishing classroom community, protocol, and instructional design. I am not very confident about my memo) I got very nervous and stalled. As I began to run out of time I tried to refocus and try to condense my memo into smaller examples of evidence seen within the video. I thin& I might have found this tas& easier if I had been able to ta&e it home and write a lengthy essay with the ability to ma&e revisions. You organi"ed your memo around specific obser#ations of the teaching in the #ideo. After each obser#ation, you noted specific connections to the graduate education abilities, the theory and the Wisconsin Teacher Standards $or references to them%. You referred to no less than se#en theorists. At the end of your memo, you listed each Wisconsin Teacher Standard and the e#idence you drew from the #ideo that illustrated them. This memo, while it is more in note form, seemed to wor! for you for the purposes of this assessment. It certainly demonstrated your understanding of the connections among the theory, the graduate education abilities, and the Wisconsin Teaching Standards. *. Your contributions in the group discussion informed others+ perspectives on best practice. I found myself getting lost in discussion. I was trying to &eep up with the pace and thin& of things I could contribute to the discussion but I was not very confident. !ventually I grew to understand it might be better for me to offer prompts for further discussion. ,or example, -'hat did you thin& when you watched./ and -'here did you see 0loom+s (axonomy in her instruction1/ I was trying to find my role in the discussion and felt more comfortable as&ing questions. I tried to remember what theorists I could tal& about, unfortunately my brain was storming with 0rian 2ambourne+s and #on 3oldway+s 2onditions of 4earning, which I very much observed within the video and eagerly wanted to tal& about) but when I reali5ed the rest of the group was not familiar with these theories, I regretfully remembered I was supposed to stic& with 6ust the theorists we discussed in 711 and 71%. While you did share information about &ambourne and 'oldaway, you also referred to (ygots!y, )andura, *olb, and )loom appropriately during the discussion. You pro#o!ed discussion by as!ing your peers about their obser#ations of the application of )loom+s Ta onomy in the lesson. You also referred to the ability of coordination in the discussion and shared your thin!ing about how this teacher reflected ,rogressi#ism in her approach to teaching. You too! the lead in !eeping the discussion flowing and in closing the discussion. Your many and specific contributions, particularly in#ol#ing theory, informed others+ perspecti#es on best practice. -#en your sharing of &ambourne+s &onditions furthered your peers+ learning.

8. 9ther+s contribution in the group discussion furthered your thin&ing about best practice. :y group was great) very well spo&en and full to the brim with relations between the video and various theories. I feel li&e if I &new the group of individuals on more of a personal level and I wasn+t so nervous, I would have been able to deliver a better performance. I don+t feel very confident about my contributions. There was a nice gi#e and ta!e of thin!ing between you and your peers. A great deal of thin!ing was shared during your discussion. You mention abo#e that the discussion was full of connections among the theories and the teaching seen on the #ideo. What, specifically, did YO. learn from your peers/

;. You demonstrate graduate level writing within the parameters of on)the)spot, computer generated wor& and graduate level social interaction. I don+t feel very confident about my on)the)spot performance and computer generated wor&. It ma&es me feel that I+m very poor at thin&ing critically about things when it+s expected at a quic& pace. I guess as <ardner+s :ultiple Intelligences would point out, I become more introspective while on the spot when really I should be using my Interactive smarts. Your spreadsheet and memo demonstrated graduate le#el writing, gi#en the parameters of this assessment. You also demonstrated solid graduate le#el social interaction in the discussion. You were one of the group members who too! the lead in the discussion and !ept the con#ersation focused and flowing. You also initiated the closure of the discussion. You appeared to acti#ely listen to your peers as they shared their thin!ing. I encourage you to rela and ha#e more confidence in yourself when you are interacting with others. You were well prepared for this assessment. This should gi#e you the confidence you need in these situations. This will come with more e perience.
