Tan Chong eyes 50% rise in sales

KUALA LUMPUR: Edaran Tan
Chong Motor Sdn Bhd (ETCM), the
sales and marketing arm of Nissan
vehicles in Malaysia, is aiming for
a 40-50% increase in sales for the
next three years.
To achieve this, ETCM executive
director Datuk Dr Ang Bon Beng said
the company will bring in completely
knocked down (CKD) models to
capitalise from the A, B and D
segments in the next three years.
“About 64.4% of the market are
not represented by Nissan because
we do not have the vehicles in
this segment. So we are going to
bring in these models to increase
our volume and market share,” he
said.
He told reporters after the
ISO 14001:2004 environmental
management system (EMS) and
ISO 9001:2000 quality manage-
ment system (QMS) certificates
presentation to Tan Chong Motor
Assemblies (TCMA) in Serendah,

Ang said the company would
bring in completely built-up (CBU)
models rather than CKD during
downtime because the investment
in CBU units would be less than
CKD models, which ranged from
RM15 million to RM20 million per
model.
On the automotive outlook, Ang
said the second half is expected to
be better than the first half, in line
with the Malaysian Automotive As-
sociation (MAA) projections, which
revised this year’s total industry
volume to 500,000 vehicles from
the earlier forecast of 480,000
units due to improved economic
conditions.
He said there will be more
launches in the second half of
2009, for both national cars or
non-national cars, adding that
these will stimulate growth and
give confidence to customers in
