Ryan Williams Professor Alicia Bolton English 101 November 5, 2013 Annotated Bibliography: End Game Mechanical errors happen quite often in all types of motorized vehicles. A lot of key elements attribute to the correct running of a motorized vehicle. However in the writing End Game, an aquatic vessel seems to have a mechanical issue. The vessel was carrying passengers, vehicles, and other items. It had a problem in the engine room to be believed and sank taking many passengers with it. There could be many precautions taken in order to keep mechanical failures from happening. If all of the precautions were taken many lives would not have been swallowed by the water. Possible delays of take off could happen; but by taking the precautions and checking everything, everyone is guaranteed a little more safety. Engines are a complex system of wires, fluids, rods, and horsepower all combined into one metal block. My research paper will inform people on how to take precautions to checking engines before use. Sterndrive, or Gas-Inboard Boat Alive and Well by Allen Berrien is a solid source
for my research paper. This is a good book for my research because this book has every idea of maintaining a vessel. From exterior seating care, to popping the hood of a motor off, and greasing it properly. In this book every chapter is helpful but only three of these chapters are the most useful for my research. Those chapters are chapter three, four, and eight. This book in more for informing readers on ways to tell if parts are needing to be replaced, or suggestions on how to get an engine running smoothly again. The three chapters I have selected for my research paper are the three most important chapters to precautionary work in order to keep accidents from happening. The book is full of information on all parts Begin by checking the alternatior drive belt to make sure its not missing, loose, shiny, or cracked (Berrien 26). Berrien gives solid information on these subjects. Berrien is a very reliable writer on this topic because he was a boat mechanic before he started writing how tos on boat mechanizing. This source is great for my research, it has all of the ways to keep a boat safe. It also gives in

Not much is mentioned about the reason for the ships sinking but in most cases a mechanical failure is the cause of ship sinking. Due to mechanical failures, ships can blow holes out of the bottom of the ship, it could overheat the wood on a wooden vessel and cause the boards to go up in flames burning from the inside out. After a ship has been wrecked it under goes investigation, Shipwreck corrosion scientists have since recognized that the principle of applying anodic protection devices, or impressed current, to a historic wreck has considerable merit (McCarthy 186). The de-corrosion of the motor allows scientist and mechanics figure out what happened as to why the vessel sank. With corrosion buildup it makes it rather hard to tell which mechanical mistake caused the problem. By doing that, it makes him a more credible source in this field of study. This eBook will be perfect for my research due to the fact that it is about a sunken ship. This article describes ways to stop a boat from sinking and ways to take precautions to make sure all safety is taken. In this article it describes a self check list to go through before leaving the dock or docking a vessel. Pascoe is a boat owner himself, he has worked on boats, worked at marinas, and boating places. Pascoe is a reliable writer and informant. through the seal around the motor can cause many problems: The engine housing sealant has to be tightly sealed or water may leak in drowning the motor and causing fire, thrown rods, or shaft issues; all of these can cause motor heaviness leading to weakening the transom and causing the transom to break losing the motor and placing a hole in the boat(Pascoe Chap. 13). Science and Technology is about a naval ship in the sea and what it takes to keep
the ship pushing forward. This ship takes a lot more mechanical maintenance than any other type of vessel. The size of this vessel calls for a large motor which means more mechanical precautions. This type of ship is a cargo ship that pushes thousands of gallons of oil through its motor every day, and requires many fuel filters to keep gas clean.

Not only motor mechanics come into play but also other engines that are off board of the ship moving cargo. This machine runs off of a motor that controls the arms of the cargo mover, and allows it to move around the docking area to move from ship to ship. This engine is a high horse power motor; it has the job of moving a large metal arm and claw, and on top of moving the heavy arm it lifts heavy cargo freights. This arm moves a lot of stuff: On- and off-load the 5000 containers using shore-based cranes in less than XX hours (np). This machine uses hydraulic oils and if the oils are not maintained and changed frequently the hoses will junk up and the engine will stop working. This source is reliable and a strong source for my research paper. This article relates to other marine based engines and how maintenance will keep these machines running. The article gives witness accounts, news reports, and a written documentary of the day that this sinking happened. The sinking of this ship does

not necessarily have a mechanical problem as the cause of the sinking. The problem was caused when the torpedo struck the ship leaving a gaping hole. The Lusitania was a militant ship was 755 feet long, 88 feet wide, and 60 foot 4 inches tall. This ship was a colossal sized vessel, which sank very quickly. When the torpedo struck the ship it opened a waterway to the hull of the ship. When the water gushed in it reached the motor room. This caused a large explosion and the ship finished burning as it sank bottom up. The sinking happened quick: Being struck took a heavy list on starboard side and in less than twenty minutes she sank in deep water (np). When the worst that could possibly happen, happens, it happens quick. This source will help stress the severity that any vessel problem could affect the motor of a vessel. All boat troubles do not lead to the motor but some boat problems could lead to motor damage, or problems. This source is a good reference could be the strength added to the counterargument; in order to show that there is more than one way a boat could sink.
