Meaning of Service Program, USM, 2011 Sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities Meaning of Service is a reading and discussion program for service workers to explore fundamental questions about the meaning of public service by examining diverse philosophical, historical and literary texts. Trained facilitators lead discussions that provided volunteers the opportunity to examine, refine and regenerate the beliefs underlying their work. Caribbean Studies Program, USM International Studies, Dec 2010-Jan 2011 - Literature of the Caribbean Traveled to Jamaica and examined the literature of the Caribbean from diverse perspectives while living within its cultural context. Five major papers were written throughout the course that analyzed our experiences as they compared to the literature that was read.

McNair Scholar Post Baccalaureate Achievement Program, USM, 2010 - Research Project: Hip Hop Education in The Coldest Winter Ever. The aim of this research was to explore and evaluate the tragic figure of Winter Santiaga in Sister Souljahs work The Coldest Winter Ever. A literary analysis of the novel explains the characterization of Winter Santiaga as it applies to her identity and the type of education she receives throughout the novel. This research highlights the importance of Hip Hop culture as an emerging focal point for research today.
