Briefly state in your own words three facts presented. a. Article sates that sex is not a bargaining chip in marriage. b. The researchers found that women tend to be more involved with helping out in traditionally male chores, than men do with female tasks. c. In marriages where the woman carried out all the traditionally female tasks, the couples had sex 1.6 times as often 2. Briefly state in your own words three opinions given. a. Amount of sex is associated with the types of chores each partner accomplishes. b. Generally married men have more sex in exchange for doing housework. c. How fast and effectively men and women spouses recover from the exhaustion from work are probably influenced by the balance of housework time and relax time. 3. What cause/effect relationships were stated or implied by the author? a. This newest study goes against most of the previous findings. Other research tended to imply that married men usually have more sex in exchange for doing housework. However, those studies did not keep track of which chores the husbands did. 4. Were any of these cause/effect statements faulty? Why? a. Faulty only in the sense that there are more exceptions than what I think the research is implying.

5. Did you find evidence of other logical errors on the part of the author? Explain where and how for each of the topics listed below. a. Distortion of Information: i. This article assumes the relationships are faithful. b. Faulty Analogy: i. This article says, sex and housework are still key aspects of sharing a life, and both are related to marital satisfaction and how spouses express their gender identity. It is leaving out many other aspects for sharing a life. c. Oversimplification: i. The researchers gathered and examined data from a national survey of approximately 4,500 heterosexual married couples in the USA. Article is leaving out non married couples. d. Stereotyping: i. Who decided what was considered a female chore as opposed to a male type chore? e. Faulty Generalization: i. The following had no impact on sexual frequency - gender ideology, religion, and happiness in marriage. Really?! No effect? 6. How credibly is the author? What are the authors credentials for writing this presentation? a. The original researchers were all sociologists. The author was doing more of a compilation work. 7. How does this material fit in with material in your text or material presented in class? a. We did learn about sexual reproduction. However, this article was more about the personal side of sex and not the functional aspect.
