Aker Solutions has manufactured pumps since 1905, the first pump bigger than 1000 hp in 1961, followed by the 2000 hp milestone in 1974. Reducing downtime and maintenance costs is one of our major goals. Experience shows that Aker Wirth mud pumps, designed for longevity, are the most reliable, field proven and innovative units on the market. Constant improvements and new ideas reflect this. Two independent in-house test stands demonstrate mud pump performance under full load conditions with high pressure testing up to 10000 PSI. This assures highest possible quality control. Aker Solutions also offers additional fluid end consum-ables suitable for various mud pumps, such as different type of valves, liners and pistons for each individual application.
Wirth triplex pumps are extremely compact and occupy a minimum of space yet provide the high volume and high pressure capabilities necessary for todays competitive drilling practices. Wirth triplex pumps are engineered to produce a very high work capacity with the minimum RPM, reducing stress and wear to vital components. The long stroke design reduces the number of load reversals in heavily stressed components and increases the life of the fluid end parts through reduced speeds and valve operation. The fluid end has practical separate suction and discharge modules including the hydraulic valve closure system. The hydraulic quick release system offers minimal downtime when replacing fluid end parts.

The hydraulic quick release system allows the maintenance crew to carry out routine operational piston / liner changes and fluid end maintenance with ease and a minimum of tools in complete safety. This system ensures the highest possible degree of safety during maintenance procedures and therefore complies with current HSE requirements. This hydraulic system is a significant factor with regards to our philosophy concerning safe, effective and easy maintenance. The unique hydraulic tensioning system employs a hydraulic hand pump or a hydraulic power pack with connection hose and snap connector. Once the correct pressure is applied to relevant components, retaining nuts can be removed by hand. This system ensures that an equal and correct, precalculated torque, which cannot be exceeded, is applied to all bolting, thus substantially increasing equipment lifespan when compared to traditional mechanical maintenance routines.
Wirth mud pumps premium line products are equipped with a fully integrated, patented hydraulic quick release system. This enables safe and easy maintenance of uid end parts, i.e. fast-change tensioning system for uid ends, for liner retention, changing valves and easy opening of valve covers.

The AC powered Wirth heave compensated drawworks are based on the conventional single gear system and offer a design unique to the industry, available in a range from 4 500 hp to 13 000 hp.
The Wirth heave compensated drawworks is equipped with the required system condition monitoring system which is available on the drilling console to facilitate detection of abnormal conditions which may lead to critical malfunctions. Alarms are triggered in the event of abnormal conditions arising. These alarms include: n Anti-collision n Slack-wire detection n Failure in the hoisting system n Fluid systems: temperature, flow and level n UPS status and charge condition of batteries n Primary power supply status n Activation of emergency stop
The heave compensated drawworks embodies the same basic principle as any other drawworks. A wire rope runs from a deadline anchor over a crown block and a travelling block to a rotating drum powered by several motors. The heave compensated drawworks is used in normal drawworks operation to raise and lower drill string, liner and casing assemblies. The heave compensated drawworks is used in heave compensation mode when connecting the BOP, drilling, testing, etc, during fixed-to-bottom operations. Heave compensation is realised by measuring the vessel movements in the vertical plane and dynamically adjusting the position of the traveling assembly accordingly. The primary goals of the heave compensated drawworks are improved safety, optimum performance and control, and high reliability. The drawworks package is delivered complete with all necessary hydraulics, lubrication systems, cooling systems, instrumentation and controls and is fully operational from a remote location. The following are the essential functions of the Wirth heave compensated drawworks: n Normal operation to raise and lower the drill string, liner and casing assemblies n Heave compensation function during fixed-to-bottom operations n Hoisting and lowering functions when facilitating disconnection from well

two independent disc brake systems to achieve maximum safety. In the event of a reduction or loss of braking force of the master brake, the second brake system will engage accordingly to compensate for the loss. Thus permitting full and continual operation of the drawworks until remedial work can be performed on the master brake. Control of the drawworks disc brake, gear selection and operation of the auxiliary drives are controlled by the programmable logic controller (PLC) within the drawworks interface control system (DICS). Braking requirements are determined by the ZPS programmable logic controller which obtains information from the drawworks sensors, the DCS and the VFD. The ZPS PLC algorithm calculates the degree of braking required and transmits the relevant signals to the braking systems (VFD and ECB). The main regenerative braking system is the primary braking system. It is supplemented by the eddy current brake if necessary. The third braking system operates in combination with the primary and secondary braking systems.
Primary active braking system: The drawworks main drive motors, supplied by Aker Solutions, not only have a driving function but are also used for regenerative braking. For braking, the drawworks motors will operate in generator mode and feedback the braking energy into a resistor bank or to the mains until the load is stopped. Regenerative braking can preferably manage braking at low speed or no speed conditions, and can stop the load at predetermined positions. Secondary active braking system: The second braking system is an Eddy current brake, which is a dynamic electromagnetic braking devicee. This brake is a high energy absorption device thus maintaining appropriate braking torque at higher drawworks speeds. Under lowspeed or nospeed conditions the eddy current brake can only produce low or no braking torque. Under these conditions the regenerative brake takes on most of the load. The eddy current braking energy is dis- sipated by water cooling. Emergency and parking brake system: The disc brake represents the third braking system and is used for emergency braking and parking only. The disc brake and the associated callipers are kept open by a hydraulic system thereby providing a fail-safe mechanism. In case of an emergency such as loss of power, hydraulic failure or system failures of the drives, all callipers will be applied. Under normal operation conditions the callipers are only applied for parking, holding the load in a static condition and thus preventing its uninten- tional lowering or raising. Wirth offhore multi and two gear drawworks are equipped with the Wirth Dual Brake System (DBS) which is an intelligent redundant PLC controlled system incorporating

All offhore Wirth single gear drawworks for mid- and deepwater application are equipped with two redundant PLC controlled disk brakes to achieve maximum safety. In the event of a reduction or loss of braking force of the master brake, the second brake will engage accordingly to compensate for the loss. Thus permitting full and continual operation of the drawworks until remedial work can be performed on the master brake. Control of the drawworks disc brakes and operation of the auxiliary drives are controlled by the programmable logic controller (PLC) within the drawworks interface control system (DICS). Braking requirements are determined by the ZPS programmable logic controller which obtains information from the drawworks sensors, the DCS and the VFD. The ZPS PLC algorithm calculates the degree of braking required and transmits the relevant signals to the braking systems (VFD). The main regenerative braking system is the primary braking system. The second braking system operates in combination with the primary braking systems.
Primary active braking system: The drawworks main drive motors, supplied by Aker Solutions, not only have a driving function but are also used for regenerative braking. For braking, the drawworks motors will operate in generator mode and feed-back the braking energy into a resistor bank or to the mains until the load is stopped. Re generative braking can stop the load at predetermined positions. Emergency and parking brake system: The disc brake represents the second braking system and is used for emergency braking and parking only. The disc brake and the associated callipers are kept open by a hydraulic system thereby providing a fail-safe mechanism. In case of an emergency such as loss of power, hydraulic failure or system failures of the drives, all calipers of the disc will be applied.

The capability to build in an auto-driller is easily given by adding an extra AC drive arrangement, independent from the main drive system. This auto-driller system is able to control the ROP triggered by various interactively set parameters and can also be used as an emergency back-up for the main drive. In case of a major failure of the drawworks main drive, the drill string can be secured from the bottom into cased hole at a reduced speed. During drilling, automatic operation control is possible on any of the following parameters: constant speed, constant weight on bit, constant standpipe mud pressure and constant DDM or top-drive torque. Additionally the operator can interactively set limits to the drilling parameters. A high degree of sensitivity and accuracy of control can be achieved. This allows maximum service life of the drilling tools and a reduced workload for the drilling crew while providing maximum adherence to the desired drilling parameters. Your benets: n Continuous, automatic weight-on-bit, DDM torque, rate of penetration or pump pressure control n Emergency lifting and lowering capacity n Easy operation with simple handling n Complete monitoring of the drilling process n Enhanced safety and equipment protection n Maximised drilling efficiency n Automatic drilling operation n Minimized downtime n Smooth block control
