Corruption, Trusteeship - Itʼs Deja Vu All Over Again!

Arrested and Charged

On Wednesday August 5, 2009, federal authorities arrested and charged New York carpenters union
leader Michael J. Forde, 54 , and nine others with 29 counts of corruption, racketeering, fraud, bribery,
and perjury. Forde and eight defendants also tested positive for cocaine and marijuana use.

The Conspirators
In addition to Mr. Forde also arrested and charged were: Joseph Olivieri, 54, a benefit funds trustee and
executive director of the Association of Wall, Ceiling and Carpentry of New York, John Greaney, 49,
business manager and president of Local 608, Brian Hayes, 38, trustee and business agent of Local
608, Michael Brennan, 53, John Stamberger, 52, both Local 608 shop stewards, Brian Carson, 49,
Joseph Ruocco, 49, Michael Vivenzio, 61, Local 157 shop stewards and contractor, Finbar OʼNeill, 44.

Unindicted Co-Conspirators
The indictment also includes six unnamed crooked contractors and one unnamed crooked Local 157
business agent as unindicted co-conspirators.

The Scheme
The indictment charges that in exchange for bribes valued at about $1 million, the conspirators helped
corrupt contractors steal millions of dollars more from the union and its benefit funds by allowing
contractors to pay members cash wages below union scale without benefits, hire illegal aliens and
nonunion workers and skip contributions to your PENSION and WELFARE FUNDS!

Virtual News Blackout

Once again the membership who pay the bills of this union have been kept in the dark. There has been
a virtual news blackout from the union since the arrest of Forde and his Co-Conspirators, Why?

International Union Actions

On Wednesday August 12, UBC General President Douglas McCarron fired Forde, Greaney, Hayes
and placed the District Council under emergency supervision. McCarron also appointed Frank Spencer,
District Vice President, Eastern District, to immediately assume supervision over the District Council.

What Does This Mean To You

Our elected leaders have once again let us down and lied to us. Its time for each and everyone of you,
the rank and file who pays the huge salaries for these crooks, to speak up and take action! Instead of
protecting the financial interests of union members and their families, these corrupt union officials and the
contractors who bribed them betrayed the carpentersʼ union and its benefit funds to enrich themselves.

What Can You Do Now?

We need to make our voices heard to avoid catastrophic consequences to our union, including the
health of our Pension and Welfare Funds. As union members, Itʼs your duty to hold elected officials
accountable. As the facts become more clear, many questions need to be answered. In order to bring
about reform and change in our union you first have to GET MAD, ORGANIZED and EDUCATED!!!

Thereʼs one thing you can do right now: we need to turn the political heat way up, and send a LOUD
and CLEAR message to the leadership of this union!.

I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!

Where Do I Go to Send a Message to Mr. Frank Spencer
