Scraps of fusible transfer web

3 yard fabric stabilizer
All-purpose thread to match fabrics
Rayon embroidery thread to match fabrics
1 spool white machine-quilting thread
Thin batting 12" x 15"

Powder blush and cotton swab
Black ne-point permanent marker
Basic sewing supplies and tools
Instructions
Quilt
Step 1. From blue fabric cut one rectangle 6" x 9",
two strips each 1

4" x 11" and 1

4" x 10

2". From gold
fabric cut two strips each 1

2" x 9" and 1
1
2" x 8".
Step 2. Trace appliqu pieces onto paper side of
fusible transfer web; cut out leaving roughly
1
2" mar-
gin around shapes.
Step 3. Fuse appliqu pieces to wrong side of selected
fabrics according to manufacturers directions; cut out
on tracing lines.
Step 4. Referring to photo, position appliqu pieces on
blue rectangle; fuse in place.
Step 5. Pin or baste fabric stabilizer to back of blue
rectangle. With matching rayon embroidery thread in
needle and all-purpose thread in bobbin, satin-stitch
around each piece except stars, beginning with back-
ground pieces and working toward the foreground.
Trim threads and remove stabilizer.
Step 6. Referring to photo, draw eyes, hair and mouth
with black ne-point permanent marker. Make cheeks
with powder blush and cotton swab.
Step 7. Stitch longer gold strips to top and bottom of
block and shorter gold strips to sides. Press toward
blue. Repeat with blue strips.
Step 8. Cut muslin backing and batting 12" x 15".
Sandwich batting between fabric layers and baste.
Machine-quilt around angels and heart and in the ditch
along seams. Use machine-quilting thread in needle
and all-purpose thread in bobbin.
Step 9. Bind to nish. Sew plastic rings near top cor-
ners for hanging.
Stocking
Step 1. Using stocking pattern, cut front from blue
print and back from muslin.
Step 2. Prepare appliqu pieces as in Steps 2 and 3 above.
Step 3. Referring to photo, position heel and toe and
appliqu pieces on stocking; fuse in place. Fuse stock-
ing cuff to top of stocking, matching top edges.
Step 4. Machine-appliqu and draw faces as in Steps 5
and 6 above.

Step 5. Position stocking front and back wrong sides
together and stitch with

4" seam around curved edges.
Clip curves and turn right side out; press.
Step 6. Cut a blue strip 2

4" x 11". Fold in half length-
wise and press. Press one end of strip under

4". Place
raw edges of strip together with top edge of stocking.
Beginning 1" from
pressed-under end
of strip, sew to top
of stocking. Place
raw end of strip Angel Friends
inside pressed end.
Stitch in place.
Finish seam of
band with zigzag
stitch; press.
Step 7. Cut blue
strip 1

4" x 6".
Fold long edges in

8" to center of
strip; press. Bring
folded edges
together again;
press and stitch
along folded
edges. Fold loop in
half and nish raw
ends with zigzag
stitch. Position
loop inside left top
corner. Stitch bot-
tom edges to back
of stocking.
