CARL JUNG AND THE ANCIENT TOLTEC:

THE MERGING ENDS OF A SECRET KNOWLEDGE

Carl Jung said that understanding the human psyche was the most important task, for it is man himself who is the biggest danger for humanity. Bringing to the light the dual nature of human awareness is one of the most important achievements in the history of human kind. The understanding of our dual nature and its practical applications is at the core of the most urgent needs for the survival and development of the individual and the survival of the human society. In the Western world, Carl Jung made an ama ing contribution in this field, when he brought the concepts of conscious and unconscious down to earth and showed that we are not one, but two, and that both sides were active participants in our life, and that there was a big problem when we were not able to bring to the light of consciousness the needs and inner dynamics of the unconscious. !ess known for the Western world is the comple" and deep development of this consciousness of our dual awareness that took place beyond the boundaries of the Western world. The Toltec, an ancient indigenous culture from #e"ico, had the feathered serpent as their main symbol. It was known as $uet alcoatl. But the feathered serpent was much more than a mere religious symbol. It was the representation of the dual nature of reality and the dual awareness of human beings. The merging of the two opposites, eagle and serpent, what crawls and what flies %Tonal&'agual(, constitute the map for the evolution of the individual and the human society. It is the map of the human soul. Both Jung and the )ncient Toltec approach the understanding of the human soul from an empirical point of view and want to apply that understanding for the practical solution of everyday life*s needs and also for the broader application of this understanding for the development of the entire society. The +istorical Toltecs developed the ,inam %the -ower that arises from harmoni ing the opposites( and Jung developed his -sychological Types and the Theory of the Collective .nconscious. Both, Jung and the Toltec, landed in a field where psychology and spirituality were two different levels to understand the same basic human need/ transcending the separation between the individual and 0what is out there.1 Jung developed his understanding of the dual nature of the human soul from the side of the reason %Tonal(. The Toltec developed a similar understanding from the 2hamanic practices of the 2ilent ,nowledge %'agual(.
