Wings of Desire Scarf

Design by Susanna IC An undulating lace pattern scarf designed to maximize the impact of yarns with long color changes, such as Noro Cashmere Island and Kureyon. The handspun look and feel of these yarns also contributes to the scarfs uniqueness. Other yarn possibilities include Knit One Crochet Two Paintbox, Universal Poems, Jojoland Rhythm, and Patons SWS. The use of needles at least two sizes larger than suggested by the yarn manufacturer is recommended to enhance openness of the lace; the gauge itself is not terribly important for success of this project. Finished Size: 7 wide and 78 long, after blocking Yarn: Noro Cashmere Island (30% cashmere, 60% wool, 10% nylon; 110 yards / 40 grams); color #6, 3 skeins Needles: Size 10 / 6.0 mm Notions: Stitch holder, blocking pins Scarf For the first half of the scarf cast on 36 stitches, work the lace chart until approximately half of the yarn (1.5 skeins) is knitted up, end with row #10. Do not cast off, place stitches on a stitch holder or secure them on a spare knitting needle. Repeat the same process for the second half of the scarf, again ending with row #10 of the lace pattern. With the right sides facing up, align both halves at the center and graft the scarf together. Finishing Weave in all loose ends; do not trim tails until after blocking. Place pin at each edge yarn over to pull out wavy points along the length of the scarf, as well as at the bottom and top edges. When completely dry, trim yarn ends.
