These jobs are posted in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 Collective Agreement 1. Course Names and Numbers being taught are listed below. The estimated number of TA's required for each course is indicated in round brackets. The approximate number of TA working hours for each course per term is indicated in square brackets. The final number in bold states the approximate course enrolment. Duties may include: preparing assignments and/or problem sets and solutions; preparing/setting up lab materials; conducting tutorials; demonstrating in labs; marking/grading of lab reports, projects, tests, quizzes; exam invigilation. 2. Good command of the English language is essential (both spoken and written). Students who have taken ECE320 or ECE357 (or their equivalent) and received at least a B+ are particularly well qualified . For laboratory teaching assistant positions experience with basic electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators and networks analyzers is essential.

Energy Systems Courses requirements - The applicant must be proficient in all aspects of the course material, as outlined in the academic calendar. Preference will be given to candidates with advanced knowledge in the field, as assessed by the course instructor. Requirements: Deep understanding of circuit theory and transistor level circuit design is required. Preference will be given to graduate students who are intimately familiar with circuit simulations & layout, parasitics, and schematics and layout tools (such as Cadence). These graduate students have preferably taken at least VLSI design methodology and Analog Circuit Design I as part of their graduate studies. The applicant should have a deep understanding of concepts of convolution, Fourier Series, Fourier Transform, sampling, and their applications. Proficiency in Matlab is desired. Preference will be given to candidates who have taken upper-year or graduate-level digital signal processing and/or digital communications courses, or are pursuing research in related areas. Communication Systems (1) [60] 170 Requirements: TAs must have a firm grasp of key concepts in digital and analog communication theory, as well as signal processing and system theory. This typically means A's in undergraduate courses equivalent to our department's ECE216, ECE316, ECE417 and ECE431. TA's are expected to teach tutorial classes and demonstrate in laboratories, and therefore need to be good communicators and must have had experience operating laboratory equipment such as signal generators, oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers. Inference Algorithms (1) [60] 30 Requirements: TA's need to have a background in probabilistic and statistical inference algorithms. Course description: Maximum likelihood estimation, logistic regression, neural networks, radial basis functions. Bayesian techniques. Auto-encoders, principal components analysis, clustering, matrix factorization. The EM algorithm. Markov models, hidden Markov models, the forward-backward algorithm, the Viterbi algorithm. Factor graphs, Bayesian networks, variable elimination, the sum-product algorithm, the max-product algorithm. Estimating graphical models. Applications to image processing, object recognition and tracking, genomics and transcriptomics, speech recognitiont and telecommunications. Systems Control Courses Requirements: TAs should have a deep knowledge of linear algebra and linear control theory, in particular the state space theory. TA should have a good familiarity with signals and systems and complex analysis. The TA should refer to the course description and make sure that he/she has a deep knowledge of all topics listed there before applying for the position.

Digital and Computer Systems Courses Requirements: The applicant must be proficient in digital systems design for FPGAs using Verilog, literate how to use a complex FPGA CAD system such as Altera's Quartus II or Xilinx' ISE. They should be familiar with Assembly Language-level

programming of processors, and how assemblers work. This knowledge would be acquired by achieving good grades (above 80) in University of Toronto Courses ECE 241 (Digital Systems) and ECE 243 (Computer Organization) or ECE 253 itself. 2. The dates of appointment will be from January 6 to April 30, 2014. TAs must be available for work on January 6th. 3. The rates of pay (in accordance with the current collective agreement) will be: $42.05/per hour for both SGSI and SGSII TAs 4.
