Student-Friendly Learning Targets Student Knowledge Targets:

I know context clues are the words or phrases surrounding an unknown word that can provide hints about the meaning of the word.

Student Reasoning Targets:

I can determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in text. I can use context clues to determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text.
Student-Friendly Vocabulary script- the written text of a play triumphantly- in a way that is joyful because of a victory desperately-in a way that is full of anxiety and worry injustice- unfairness repentant- regretful or sorry for ones actions acceptable- capable of meeting approval or being accepted discards- gets rid of something circumstances- the events that affect or surround a situation

E. Procedure: 1. As a class we will read Vocabulary Power on page 454. When we finish reading we will discuss what we think the words in the text mean. 2. I will explain that on the worksheet the students are to write the vocabulary word that best completes the sentence. 3. The students will independently complete workbook page 82 and turn it in. 4. Next the students will choose a partner and write their own script using the vocabulary terms that were previously discussed. Writing the words in a script helps them to learn to use the vocabulary terms properly and relates to the story. 5. The students may not have time to finish their script. If they do not I will have them complete the script tomorrow during class.

F. Closure: In closing the whole class will discuss the meanings of the different vocabulary terms and how to properly use them in a sentence. The students will submit their workbook for grading and hold onto their scripts to complete them tomorrow.

G. Assessment: Assessment Tool I will assess the students understandings informally by whole group discussion at the end of the lesson. I will also assess the students understanding by grading their workbook pages completed during the lesson. What Is Being Assessed? By discussing the words and definitions it will be clear if the students understand the vocabulary words. Their understanding will also be clear when I grade their workbook pages. H. Reflection& Thoughts: Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest to teach? I think the easiest part of the lesson to teach will be the discussions. The students will lead the discussion and I will just be guiding and keeping them on task. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the most challenging to teach? I think the most challenging part of the lesson will be teaching the students how to write a script. I think writing a script is a complex assignment for students. I may have to extend or break this part of the lesson down to help students understand it. What lesson or concept should be taught prior to this lesson? The students should be familiar with what a script is prior to this lesson. I think it would be a good idea to make up a script as a class and have different books with scripts or print outs that help the students understand what they are. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? I will extend this lesson by using the Extend: Bonus Words worksheet on page S117 of the Trophies book. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? I will use Reteach: Vocabulary on page S116 of the Trophies book. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? I may need to change the amount of work given; it may be too much to fit in one day. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part?

The most difficult part of writing this lesson plan was navigating through the Trophies Teachers Edition book.
