Plot Overview
Odysseus and Eumaeus walk outside to have breakfast, and are met by Telemachus Telemachus is unaware that the man he is talking to is his father, but Odysseus does know Eumaeus becomes very emotional at the return of Telemachus, and Telemachus asks Eumaeus whether his mother has married anyone else Telemachus questions Odysseus, and wonders why he is there, where he should stay, and what the suitors would do if they saw him Odysseus and Telemachus discuss the suitors, and how these men shouldnt be tearing up another mans home Telemachus sends Eumaeus to tell Penelope that he has made it home alive, and Eumaeus leaves Athena appears, and makes Odysseus look young and clean, and tells him to tell Telemachus who he is Odysseus tells Telemachus that he is Odysseus, but Telemachus is suspicious because he thinks that Odysseus is a god or a fraud because he just changed looks Telemachus is finally convinced, and the two become very emotional

The two men decide to fight the suitors. Odysseus is convinced that they can win fighting by themselves with help from the gods, and Telemachus thinks they need backup. Odysseus tells Telemachus that Eumaeus will lead him into the city looking like a beggar, and he will go to the palace. No matter what the other suitors say, Telemachus cannot defend Odysseus. Odysseus will give Telemachus a signal, and he will move all the weapons except two swords into a different room. Then, at another signal, the two will begin to fight the suitors. Odysseus also instructs Telemachus to tell no one that Odysseus has returned home. Telemachus tells Odysseus to find out which men and women are still faithful to him, and the two men continue to conspire. Meanwhile, Eumaeus and another man both tell Penelope that Telemachus has returned The suitors overheard, and become upset that he made it home alive. Antinous tells the other suitors that they should kill Telemachus outside of the town, and then one should marry Penelope. If the gods do not want him killed, though, then he should stay alive Penelope finds out what the suitors plotted, but one of them claims that they would never touch him. Eumaeus goes back to Telemachus and Odysseus, and tells him of the suitors plans.
