Why: I chose this project because the Millennial generation, myself included, is missing out on what the world has to offer. Hidden behind electronics and media, much of this generation lacks the interpersonal skills required to communicate outside of a virtual world. This project will spark a revolution to change the future for Millennials, and the generations to follow. Purpose: Declare the issues that are preventing many Millennials from thriving in interpersonal communication. Give hope for a positive future that can become reality if certain things change. Show how we can implement changes to attain that positive future. Audience: Mostly Millennials (born 1981-2001), but also those who influence and are influenced by Millennials. Really, anyone hindered by electronics, media or some other influence that is causing social impedance. Context: An ideal environment for my project would be a conference/forum that would allow those seeking out help with socialization a chance to be influenced by my project, and social experts on hand at the event. Realistically, any environment is suitable for my project as it can be received visually and/or audibly with similar outcomes. (ex. Webpage, concert/festival events, inspirational outreach, etc.) I plan to set up a tv/laptop/dvd player with a headphone splitter so that up to 4 people can view/listen at once. Choices/Approaches: 1. Why a video/audio production? a. My main skills lie in this area (video/audio production, graphic design, music, inspiration) and I feel that this is the best method to channel my thoughts and ideas to the public. 2. Why is Stand Out a likely title? a. The point of this project is to motivate people to change their habits, and move outside of their comfort zone. The ideas presented in this production will stray from the current standard set by society, which results in standing out. 3. Why focus on interpersonal communication? a. There is a lack of interpersonal communication in the millennial generation, just walk into a fast food restaurant and you will see what I mean. Im not saying that every millennial lacks these skills, just that the generation in general is lacking. 4. Is technology/media the only cause for this lack? a. No, I believe that there are many causes, some being more obvious than others. But technology and media is definitely a major cause, and most likely the foundation for this production. More routes will be pursued in order to create something original, outside of the general idea that electronics are the sole cause. 5. Will there be dialogue/voiceover/music? a. I dont see there being any dialogue at this point. I visualize a cinematically stunning production with an original soundtrack (maybe not, if time permits). Voiceover throughout, intended to probe and encourage.

b. Scenes will be humbling, real, and hopefully eye opening. The point is to cause viewers to question their actions on a daily basis, and think about how they might be affecting others, or themselves. Also, how might their life change if some of these actions were modified? 6. Poster board/banner a. This will add a visual element to not only attract people to my project, but also to provide information that will capture the interest of individuals and make them want to watch the whole video. b. A laptop on a table isnt very interesting, and if someone comes in the middle of the video, they may not understand the meaning. The poster board will inform the viewer of the purpose behind the video. 7. Logo/Symbol a. Possibly a typography style logo. Maybe lots of dark, media/electronic related words with Stand Out in bright red. 8. Irony a. I will be using media/technology to convey a message that is somewhat against it. 9. Musician: Street Scene a. Musician walking down the street, promoting his music on websites on his phone. Walks right by a caf/bar promoting new artists. Misses a chance. b. The immediate world around us is full of opportunity and hope, the internet is not the only way to success. c. The internet is a great way to share your creations with the world but what if something better is hidden in plain sight? something along those lines. 10. Teacher: Classroom a. Teacher in front of class teaching. Students texting/browsing on devices. Teacher cracks joke, nobody reacts. b. Reverse scene, phones left in car/backpacks/locker. Show reaction and how it ties the class together. Show student-to-student interaction, etc. c. Are your friends that are away from you more important than the ones beside you? 11. Open-ended a. I chose to keep the issues at hand at a subjective viewpoint so that media isnt necessarily seen as a problem, but something that can be improved. The resolution to these issues is also open-ended and not meant to offer an alternative lifestyle, but instead motivation to do better. 12. Musical Choice a. I chose Pompeii by Bastille due to the overall inspirational sensation provided by the song. b. Also delivers a positive message and fits nicely with the visual cues offered in the video. Here are a few examples among others: i. Devices mentioned in song. Although Bastille is referring to the word in a non-physical sense, it still fits well.

ii. Close your eyes Sometimes I just want to close my eyes and imagine a world without all the technological noise.
