Introduction
Ok manly men, we all have our daily duties to take care of, that's just life and you cant control that. What you can control is where you conduct your business. If you're like us you probably prefer to do so in a clean, well-stocked and nice smelling atmosphere. But with all the restroom options we have on UNT's campus how do you decide where to go? Well that's what we're writing this for, for the man on the go that has to go and wants to do so in style in a suitable environment. My team went to bathrooms all over campus in each classroom building in search of the best bathrooms. In this study we took account of the several factors that make a bathroom visit a good one. Cleanliness and the smell, these obviously play a big role in our comfort in any bathroom we walk into. Space and the foot traffic in the bathroom, when it comes down to our private matters everyone likes to have a bit of space and wiggle room free from other people and having to bump shoulders with other patrons or even worse, wait in a line. Number of sinks, sometimes a visit to a bathroom is just about getting your hands and face clean and looking yourself in the mirror just to remind yourself how good you look. Vandalism, college bathrooms, especially mens, are notorious for their graffiti scribblings. While some love the reading material, others may not and its always nice to know what kind of stall your about to spend some time in. Automation, it may not seem like that big of a deal to those that like the old fashion do it yourself manual handles, but to a germaphobe it can mean everything. Finally, there is the matter of how well stocked these bathrooms seemed to be, the quickest way to ruin a bathroom break is to walk out drying your unsoaped hands on your shirt, or even worse not being able to do the necessary paper work after you finish your business.

We visited twenty bathrooms all over campus, excluding residence halls. We visited the buildings that we think are the most visited on campus. We rated each bathroom on cleanliness smell space traffic number of sinks supplies vandalism

We decided to rate the bathrooms on the above categories, because we think that these are the most important features of a bathroom. Cleanliness: It is important that a bathroom is clean, because no one wants to use a bathroom that is dirty. A clean bathroom means that there arent any paper towels on the ground, the trash is taken out regularly, the sinks and counter tops are cleaned regularly, and the stalls and urinals are kept clean. If a person needs to use a stall, they expect that is clean. A dirty bathroom is unacceptable. Smell: When people want to use a bathroom, they dont want to walk into a bathroom that stinks. A smelly bathroom is a nasty bathroom. It is important that a bathroom is cleaned often, because if it isnt it starts to stink. Traffic: When people want to use a bathroom, they dont want to be rushed. Everyone wants to take their time when using the bathroom, so having as little traffic in a bathroom is important. Number of Sinks: If a bathroom only has a few sinks, and the traffic is heavy then it takes a long time to wash your hands after using the bathroom. Having more than just two sinks is important in every public bathroom, because no one wants to wait while someone is washing their hands. Having multiple sinks in a bathroom is essential. Supplies: If a bathroom doesnt have enough supplies, then someone isnt going to be able to wash their hands, or use the stalls. Having enough paper towels, soap, and toilet paper is important in every bathroom. Vandalism: Some people like reading the vandalism that is a bathroom, and some people dont. It depends on the person, but most people would rather use a bathroom that doesnt have any vandalism. We enjoy reading some of the vandalism that is in the stalls, but we only enjoy reading clever things that people draw and write. It helps pass the

time, and it keeps entertained while we finish business. Some vandalism is funny to read, but not all vandalism is funny. We also looked at what was automated in the bathrooms, so if a bathroom had automatic features, we said that the bathroom was automated. We didnt rank the bathrooms on whether it is automatic or not because some bathrooms are nice, but dont have automatic features. We didnt think this should be the deciding factor on whether a bathroom is a good bathroom, or a bad bathroom. We still think its important to include if a bathroom is automated or not, because some people cant use a bathroom that is not automated.

We rated the bathrooms in every category on a scale from one to ten, except for vandalism. We rated vandalism on a scale from one to five. Ten means that the bathroom is excellent in that category, and one means that the bathroom is terrible in that category. If vandalism is rated with a zero, then there isnt any or its bad vandalism.

After we rated all the bathrooms, we added up all the points to see which ones are the best. The bathrooms with a high score are bathrooms that you would like to visit, and the bathrooms with a low score are bathrooms that you want to stay away from. General Academic Building: The GAB doesnt have a bathroom from the future, but does have a bathroom. This bathroom has enough space for people to walk around, but it isnt crowded. When using this bathroom, you will notice that there are enough urinals, and stalls for everyone to use the restroom comfortably. There are also enough sinks for everyone, so no one has to wait to wash their hands after using the bathroom. This bathroom is also automated, so you dont have to worry about dirty surfaces. The GAB received 46 points total. Environmental Science Building: The environmental science building is a good bathroom. It is clean, it doesnt have a bad smell, it has a lot of space, the amount of traffic in this building is very low, and it has a lot of supplies. It also has enough sinks for people to use, without waiting in a line to wash their hands. This bathroom is not automated, but that isnt a problem. This bathroom is kept clean, so you dont have to worry about dirty surfaces. This bathroom received a score of 46 points. Music Building: The music building bathroom is terrible. It has one sink, one stall, and something that might be a urinal. It is extremely small, and smells bad. This bathroom has little traffic, but that is because no one wants to use it. There is a little bit of vandalism in the stall, but it is not amusing. This bathroom is also not cleaned very often. There are paper towels on the floor, and dirt everywhere. This bathroom is absolutely terrible. It received 26 points. Language Building: The language buildings bathroom is not a pleasant place to do business. This bathroom stinks all the time, has only two sinks, and usually has other people in there, so waiting in a line is normal. There isnt much space in this bathroom, it isnt well-stocked with supplies, and it isnt automated. This bathroom received 30 points. Eagle Student Services Center: This bathroom is clean in general, but the toilets are disgusting. This bathroom doesnt smell bad, and it does have space for people to move around. There are plenty of stalls, urinals, and sinks for people to use. This bathroom has little traffic throughout the day, so you dont have to stand in a line. This bathroom is also well-stocked on supplies, so overall this bathroom is a pleasant place to do business. This bathroom received a score of 46. Art Building: The bathroom in the art building is clean, it doesnt smell bad, but there isnt much space. There arent many sinks, stalls, or urinals in this bathroom, but there isnt a lot of traffic in this bathroom. You dont have to stand in a line, and this bathroom is well-stocked. This bathroom isnt automated, but it is a nice bathroom overall. This bathroom received a score of 42.

Auditorium: This bathroom is very small. There isnt any room to move if there is more than one person in this bathroom. There arent a lot of sinks, stalls, and urinals in this bathroom, but it is clean, and well-stocked. There are always paper towels in this bathroom, so you dont have to air dry your hands or use your pants. This bathroom is small, but it doesnt have a lot of people using it, so you dont have to wait in line. This bathroom received a score of 36. Business Leadership Building: The mens bathroom in the business leadership building is well kept. It has several stalls and urinals that are clean, and every toilet is automatic. There are several sinks that are well stocked with paper towels and soap. The bathroom has very little traffic and has a pleasant smell, however there is trash and used paper towels on the floor and sinks. This bathroom received a score of 53. Stovall Hall: Stovall halls restroom is small. It has one sink, one urinal, and one stall. Despite the size of the bathroom, it is roomy, somewhat well kept, has a plain odor, and has almost no traffic at all. This bathroom is nothing special, but it has a lot of supplies. This bathroom received a score of 37. Sage Hall: Sage hall is well stocked with paper towels, soap, toilet paper, and had the slight odor of urine. It has manual flushing toilets and an adequate number of urinals, stalls, and sinks. It has little traffic, but is not clean. This bathroom received a score of 40. Terrill Hall, Note: (Think I gave Terrill the wrong score will correct it tomorrow): Terrill hall is a poor bathroom. The worst aspect of the bathroom is that it has the strong odor of urine and high humidity. It has an adequate number of urinals, stalls and sinks, but has some trash on the floor. Despite being well stocked with supplies the bathroom was almost intolerable to be in. This bathroom received a score of 40. Marquis Hall: Marquis hall is a cramped bathroom. It only has space for one-person. It has two urinals, two stalls, and two sinks. The floor is somewhat dirty with toilet paper and paper towels on the floor. Despite the size, there is little traffic and a somewhat pleasant smell. This bathroom received a score of 40. Curry Hall: The bathroom in Curry Hall has enough space for only a few people. There are three urinals and three stalls that are not cramped together. The floor is somewhat clean with little traffic. This bathroom is not clean, but is well-stocked with supplies. This bathroom received a score of 39. Physics Building: The bathroom in the physics building is small. There are two stalls and three urinals, but there is not a lot of space to walk around. The bathroom is wellstocked with supplies, has a clean floor, and little traffic. This bathroom received a score of 39. RTFP: I love bathrooms without doors, anything that lets me hang onto the thought that my hands are clean and I dont have to touch anything potentially filthy is a good thing in my book. Walking thru the zig zagging path to the bathroom eventually opened up to a very large bathroom, which I suppose shouldnt surprise me considering they hold shows

with intermissions in this building. One thing I enjoyed was the humorous scribbling on the wall of the stall I chose, although it there wasnt much of it, I always enjoy some light hearted vandalism to help time pass and the chuckles they gave me was appreciated. A surprising detail that caught my eye was the sinks, while the toilets and urinals were both manual flush valves, the sinks were all automatic with the exception for one on the far right. Wooten: Good ole Wooten Hall, this building has a special place in my heart for being so old and having such personality with its interior architecture. Walking through the doors I was greeted with a smell less than pleasant in a cramped bathroom but I continued onward into her depths, The stall I chose was riddled with vandalism, which I guess I shouldve expected from the age of the building, vandalism which I didnt really enjoy. Much of the writings were name calling, racial remarks and other profanities I was not particularly fond of. However this bathroom had the unexpected luxury of automated toilets, urinals and sinks, good for you Wooten good for you, it almost makes up for you not having any paper towels. Chemistry Building: Walking into the bathroom the, I had a great first impression of a clean and rather new feeling bathroom, but what really jumped out at me was the size and capacity of the bathroom is much bigger in comparison to all the other bathrooms I visited on campus. During my stay I took notice of the impressive lack of graffiti on the walls of the stalls. As youd expect from one of the newer bathrooms on campus everything was automated from the sinks to the urinals. Life Sciences: Walking into the extravagant Life Sciences building with its outdoor sculptures and Texas maps adorning the floor and walls, I had high hopes for their bathrooms, which is a surprising thing to hope for. I was not impressed, the bathroom was a bit small for the business of the building itself stripping the bathroom goers of any personal space during break times. Crowding aside, the bathroom had minimal vandalism on its walls what scarce graffiti it did have was illegible as attempts to scrub it away were obvious. What disappointed me the most about this bathroom was despite its novelty and the buildings lavish decorations didnt have anything automatic in it. Hickory Hall: Having never taken a class here before or knowing anyone who has I didnt know what to expect from UNTs oldest building and therefore oldest bathrooms. I was pleased though as I wasnt disgusted or repelled by the bathroom at all, although small was nice, no graffiti which was very shocking considering its age, the main thing that stuck out to me about this bathroom was its 2 sinks each only having 1 cold water knob, I was not amused. Sycamore Hall: The word dingy came to my mind upon entering this bathroom, low lighting and a dirty appearance all over. I would have to wash my hands twice as long just for my own peace of mind before I leave. The bathroom did have its redeeming point though, for Sycamore Hall it was its plethora of graffiti, I couldve compiled a book out of it there was so much to read, some funny, some political, and of course some dirty

words, I maybe alone in having this opinion but I enjoy some good bathroom reading material which this one had in spades. I would still wash my hands though. Matthews Hall: For only having two toilets and two urinals (and two sinks) this bathroom really gives you a lot of open room to stretch your legs out in, not something I was expecting from any of the bathrooms on my tour but it was nice and it was clean. Inside of the stalls you'd find a unique but scarce kind of vandalism I hadnt seen anywhere else on campus. White stickers were randomly stuck about the walls so the vandals wouldnt have to write or carve into the actual walls themselves, how considerate of them I thought. Although nothing was automated and I actually had to touch all sorts of handles like a caveman before I could leave it was that little gesture I found to be endearing and what made this restroom seem just a bit special.

Conclusion & Recommendation

Conclusion & Recommendation

Conclusion
You're welcome, after all our hard work it's paid off for you. Through our study we've differentiated the good bathrooms from the bad ones and those that lie in between. Lets start with the bad and dirty ones as is the nature of this report. Among the bad include: the Physics Building, Terrill Hall, Curry Hall, Marquis Hall, Wooten Hall, Sycamore Hall, the Language Building, and the Life Sciences building. Most of these landed their spot on the bad list due to their cramped size, smell and issues with cleanliness. These should be avoided unless you have an emergency situation is on the horizon. Now for the good shining stars of UNT's restroom selection including: the Business Leadership Building, the Environmental Sciences Building, Stovall Hall, Sage Hall, Hickory Hall, the Eagle Student Services Center, the RTFP Building and the Chemistry Building. All of these are well stocked with soap, towels and toilet paper, never any waiting lines and best of all no foul smell and a clean scenery. All of these will let you walk away from them without feeling disgusted. Finally we have our bathrooms on the fence between these two lists, all of these are acceptable bathrooms and have their pros and cons. The Art Building and the Auditorium Building despite their small size, make up for it with their cleanliness and well stocked supplies. The GAB although a little older and lacking any automation still remains clean, well-stocked and large enough to accompany plenty of patrons. Lastly there's Matthews Hall which was particularly hard to place mainly due to its unique graffiti, lack of automation and above average traffic all together even the score out to the middle ground.

Recommendation
Here's what you've been waiting for the best bathroom on campus; the Business Leadership Building in here are the best porcelain thrones around UNT with its clean floors, well stocked supplies, ample size, shocking lack of traffic and a small amount of legible while humorous vandalism in a select few stalls. All of these factors combined have led us to bestow this high honor of being named the best mens bathroom. Just remember if nature calls and the dreaded Music Building is the closest bathroom to you fear not the Business Leadership Building isnt too far away and worth the walk.
