Subject: Kyles Performance Evaluations Inez, Looking at the team evaluation for Kyle Houston, it is my belief that he is not

ready for the team leadership position in Dallas. The areas of concern where Kyle could use some improvement are listening and facilitating group problem solving. Kyles overall score of 2.42 out of 3 is not quite at the desired 2.8 out of 3 that is ideal for leadership positions According to the evaluation Kyle was great about contributing to the team. He scored 2.83 out of 3 on that portion of the test, which is right where he needs to be. He showed initiative in offering ideas and suggestions. In addition to this he attended all meetings and met all deadlines. This is an area of strength for Kyle and needs little if any improvement. Kyle scored a mean of 1.96 out of 3 on the listening portion of the evaluation. Listening is an imperative part of being a leader. The evaluation indicated that Kyle was not particularly adept at summarizing or clarifying ideas of other members. When asked to interpret the ideas of other members he often struggled to grasp the concepts that had just been discussed. Before Kyle is put in a leadership position, his leadership skills must improve. Kyle received a mean of 2.18 on the facilitating group problem solving portion of the team evaluations. Kyle isnt too far away from where he needs to be in this area. He excels at organizing discussion and encouraging suggestions of alternative solutions. Kyle always seems to be directing conversation to new and different ideas. The areas that Kyle could use improvement are selecting criteria for evaluating suggested ideas and discarding all but the best solution. Although he often encourages new ideas he seems to have trouble evaluating and deciding on the best one. Small adjustments here will put him where he needs to be. Kyle has a very bright future ahead of him. I think Kyle would be best served if he had more time here to learn and grow. In order for him to be a better leader I would enjoy mentoring him to help improve his listening skills and his ability to facilitate group problem solving. In my opinion he just needs some time to get a little mentoring and coaching from more experienced leaders. I believe he will be a great leader given the chance to fully develop. Thank you for the opportunity to evaluate Kyle. With this kind of focus on leadership in our organization I believe we are definitely headed in the right direction. I am grateful that you have placed that amount of trust in me.
