Shawnee Beeler English 2010 Instructor: Terra Davis Additional Annotated Bibliography

Lewin, Tamar. "If Your Kids Are Awake, Theyre Probably Online." New York Times 20 01 2010, The New York ed. A1. Web.

I read the article If Your Kids Are Awake Theyre Probably Online. In this article written by the New York Times it talks about a new study done by the Kaiser Family Foundation. The article focuses on reporting the new findings in the case study compared to five years earlier. The numbers have raised, children ages 8 to 18 are said to spend more than seven and a half hours on mobile devices, internet iPods and etc, compared to the study five years before. It also informs the audience about the parents view point concerning their children. Whether media usage is causing problems or rather troubled youths turn to heavy media usage for comfort. One interesting statistic found was that 47% of heavy media users using 16 hours a day had mostly Cs or lower grades in school, comparing to the 23% of students who were only using the media 3 hours a day or less. This information was conducted by taking a survey of 2,000 students in grades 3rd to 12th from October 2009 to May 2009. However, it was really interesting to find that even during the survey was changing; the website twitter hadnt been invented at the beginning of the survey, but at the end it was available. While reading this article I found that the author was able to establish credibility. There were not only facts and statistics of this study, but also interviews that consisted of doctors, parents and even the children themselves. In doing this I feel the author was able to explore each

side to the story. If this article did not have statistics, facts or interviews it would not be credible, that is what I think make this source so appealing. There is a great deal of information offered and with this information, specifically statistics found in the study you can research even more on your own. I feel this source provides an effective argument by providing the information found in the new study and conducting on how it was found. The reason I chose this source was because there was a comment made on my proposal paper regarding a loss of focus having to do with my topic, and that I should be focusing more directly on how media consumption relates to the choices that people make. So it gave me the idea to research into media consumption. This article doesnt talk about media consumption the way I do in my paper. But I think it has been very beneficial for me to look a little more into it rather than just making up my own ideas, without having some solid proof to show my ideas can work. With this article I can see that children do view media a great deal and I could see myself using some of the information I found on this site to better explain how involved kids are in viewing the media and how it can be a disturbance to them in school for my final e-portfolio paper.

Sema, Patarawadee. "Does Social Media Affect Consumer Decision-." Diss. Johnson & Wales University, 2013. Web. This academic paper focuses mainly on the idea that social media plays a part in influencing the decision making of a consumer. Whether it be communication through the social media impacting the decisions on marketing strategies or by recommending friends on social media websites to help make decisions for consumers. It also talks about the influences of social

media on buying behavior through duality, brand, advertising, or price. All can be advertised on the social media, if someone sees it and talks about it you will find it is guarantee to be a good seller. Facebook and Twitter are some of the most influential ways to communicate and broadcast decision making for consumer as well. The article goes into detail about a number of studies on consumer purchases. And it was found that there are two main motivations rational and emotional to get people to buy things. The article not only talks about how the use of decision making on products or service but also helps in other fields of service or careers. I found while reading this article that it is a rather credible source not only did he provide great deal of information, he was able to back up his facts by citing his own sources establishing credibility. One of the really interesting things included in the paper was a survey conducted on the use of social media in travel planning by asking a simple question. If they were involved with the social media do they post or just read whats online. And by doing this they were able to provide better services by posting having social media take part in decision making. His use of sources and facts flow rather well together. Comparing this source to the one above about the amount of media usage from children ages 8 to 18 I can say I think this is a better resource because it is an academic paper. The newspaper usually only focuses on what is important and doesnt always go into great depth compared to what you can do in an academic paper. It makes me wonder if I could change my paper for my e-portfolio up a bit and instead of writing a paper to the FCC about making more restrictions towards profanity and indecency maybe I could talk about some ways that social media can impact children. I think this paper is a great example of a well wrote piece of work, I rather enjoyed it and was even able to understand it without getting confused.
