Gabriel Nold 10 December 2013 Introduction To Old Testament Scripture Analysis Part 10 My scripture is Psalm 103.

The setting of my scripture is derived mostly from two words that precede the chapter of scripture, which are Of David. Although many scholars believe that this was not actually written by David because there are many chapters in Psalm that have Of David on them. We know that this hymn of thanksgiving was written sometime around the time of King Davids reign. However, the reason that we believe these pieces of scripture were not actually written by the King himself but in his name, was because back then it was considered an honor to have someone write in your name. Nowadays if someone did that you would be given heavy fines and possible have the risk of going to jail because of plagiarism. This text in the old days was a hymn of thanksgiving for believers. It describes what believers in the Lord should do. The scripture starts out with Bless the Lord, O my soul, which shows that believes are supposed to give the Lord their soul. Not only give the Lord their soul, but also give it willingly and obediently knowing that this is the King who has provided everything for you and has blessed you as his people. Psalm 103 then goes into what all the Lord has blessed the writers who collected them as well as all of those who believed in God. Some of the things that The Almighty God blessed them with would be 3 who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, 4 who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, 5 who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's. These things represent all that

the Lord has blessed his followers with. This relates right back to why it is a hymn of thanksgiving because these are what they need to be thankful for. From a current time standpoint, we view this very similar as the people in the past. However, there are more of us now then there was then as well as The passage focuses on one main blessing, the healing of life-threatening forces, which is further broken into six blessings. The scripture also reveals how God is forgiving of our transgressions. Last it is description/list of the gifts not just to a single person but a whole nation. I am very impressed by how much the Lord offers to someone as broken as the people of this generation. The only thing that disappoints me is I wish we were able to hear from some of the people who were used to write the Bible so I could ask them questions and get clarification about things that are not from interpretation. This however is why we call it faith in the Lord. During my process of analyzing my scripture, I was given a lot of time to ponder not only on how this passage not only applies to me but also how it guides me. I have found that during my lifetime I have had a great deal of ups and downs. In the scripture it talks about how the Lord so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's which is very true for my life. I went through a hard time during my 8th grade year. My dog that I loved very dearly had cancer. We had to put her down only 3 days before Christmas and I was a wreck. I felt lost and was very depressed because I used to do everything with her. Lucy was my best friend. However, the Lord being a merciful God as it states in the hymn was there for me and brought me through it. I feel that this passage and be summed up by another passage in scripture which is 1 Corinthians 10:13. This states that the Lord will not bring you (a believer) to something that you cannot bear and get through. Psalm 103

is just like that only it talks about how I should be grateful for such a gift as this.
