The following emerging trends were used in the Futurist Presentation:

Cloud Computing

http://computer.howstuffworks.com/cloud-computing/cloud-computing.htm

Cloud computing is the next stage in the Internet's evolution, providing the means through which everything from computing power to computing infrastructure, applications, business processes to personal collaboration can be delivered to you as a service wherever and whenever you need. The cloud in cloud computing can be defined as the set of hardware, networks, storage, services, and interfaces that combine to deliver aspects of computing as a service. Cloud services include the delivery of software, infrastructure, and storage over the Internet (either as separate components or a complete platform) based on user demand.

Gamification

http://gamification.org/wiki/Gamification Gamification typically involves applying game design thinking to non-game applications to make them more fun and engaging. Gamification has been called one of the most important trends in technology by several industry experts especially in the field of education

Learning analytics http://www.elearnspace.org/blog/2010/08/25/what-are-learning-analytics/

Learning analytics is the use of intelligent data, learner-produced data, and analysis models to discover information and social connections, and to predict and advise on learning.

Gesture Based Learning

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/innovative-education/archive/2012/06/07/gesture-based-technologywhat-can-it-mean-for-education.aspx

The use of gesture-based control mechanisms allows a user to engage with a virtual environment and manipulate information instinctively. Not only can it be used in lessons, it can also be implemented as means to expand classroom resources and data management systems to connect students to their education in a new way. Not only is the nature of gestures universal, and more natural than operating a mouse or keyboard, but it could be a valuable tool in maintaining and focusing students' attention, and promoting an interactive classroom.

3D Telepresence

http://www.3dpresence.org/

Telepresence is a form of remote conferencing in which the participants appear to be physically present in the conference space. Body language cues like eye contact are easily transmitted and interpreted because of the fidelity, size, and position of the images. Several high-profile 3dimensional demonstrations of the technology have taken place; for instance, CNN made

extensive use of the technology during coverage of the 2008 US presidential election. Typically, 3D telepresence requires a specially configured space in which to capture a 360-degree image that can then be inserted into a virtual set, and viewed from any angle, but high-definition displays, seamless integration with software and data presentation, and full-surround audio make even 2D telepresence a very immersive experience.

BYOD

http://www.weinspirefutures.com/idea-bank/byod-the-now-of-education/

Using BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) initiatives, our schools are attempting to increase the number of smartphones, tablets and laptops that we have on hand. As a way of managing shrinking budgets and improving student engagement, BYOD could represent the next great frontier in education.

MOOCs http://onmoocs.com/articles/ Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) are an evolutionary step further in education. A These courses are offered for free to anyone who chooses to access them. In the majority of cases, course credits are not offered for completing a MOOC. While one-off MOOCs have been taught since at least 2008, they are rapidly gaining momentum, largely due to companies and collaborative projects such as Coursera, edX, and Udacity.

Augmented Reality

http://www.howstuffworks.com/augmented-reality.htm

This new technology, called augmented reality, blurs the line between what's real and what's computer-generated by enhancing what we see, hear, feel and smell. On the spectrum between virtual reality, which creates immersive, computer-generated environments, and the real world, augmented reality is closer to the real world. Augmented reality adds graphics, sounds, haptic feedback and smell to the natural world as it exists. We can experience a field trip without actually going on a field trip. Imagine the excitement in a classroom.

Authoring Tool

http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/A/authoring_tool.html

Authoring Tool allows you to quickly and easily web-enable assessments, creating anything from basic to advanced tests using proprietary content. In the e-Learning world, authoring tools which are also referred to as e-Learning authoring tools, e-Learning authoring software, eLearning content development tools and e-Learning course development software go far beyond writing and word processing. Authoring tools enable trainers to integrate an array of media to create professional, engaging and interactive training content. With an authoring tool, you can repurpose digitized elements or learning objects from an existing course for use in a new course. In this way, you can realize a return on investment for components that may have been developed using outside programmers or graphic design resources.

Information Visualisation

http://horizon.wiki.nmc.org/Information+Visualization

Information visualization is the graphical representation of technical, often complex data that is designed to be understood quickly and easily by the layperson. Popularly called infographics, this type of media is highly valuable in the age of ubiquitous knowledge, and the people who create it are equally desired by organizations seeking to share messages that make an impact. Any learning content will benefit from integrating more visual information. This has been demonstrated in research to help understand, recognize, memorize, relate, etc. Not only applied to large group of data but to all major concepts in any given subject.

Reflection

This journey has definitely been an eventful one from the moment I read the assignment. It was intimidating after seeing the instruction that a movie had to be made. It was first time experience and what made the project doable for me was my experience with PowerPoint. Moving from the known made it approachable and a bit comfortable. However at the end of the process I felt accomplished and my skills in technology moved a notch. Selecting the trends were a bit challenging because I seemed to be bombarded with information from my research and it was a bit difficult to narrow down to ten trends or what I interpreted as emerging trends in 2015. Even though the research was done you still had the opportunity to project your mind to the future to reflect on what might be in the world of technology and education. What assisted me in this project was the information that I gathered throughout my learning experience in this course. This assignment culminated my experience with my interaction with technology. What was also a bit tedious was the application of the animations of the content of the slides as well as the transitions of the slides, I underestimated the effort and time it would have taken to accomplish the task but the task only became challenging when the conversion had to be done. It took a bit of exploring before I came across the software Moyea. This software was simple to interact with and so the conversion was done without any complications. The jackpot came when I was able to upload to YouTube. I always believed that you had to be techno savvy to upload to you tube. In that case, I believe that I am techno savvy. This assignment encouraged me to reflect on a similar assignment that was done for this course and this reflection definitely encouraged me to persevere because that assignment too was challenging because my interaction with the technology was also a first time. However with my current assignment I was

8 mentally prepared to overcome the obstacles because my approached this time was enhanced by my experiences with previous assignments attached to this course. I believe I have blossomed from one stage to the next during this course and this assignment culminated my experience with the interaction of technology. My skills in technology have definitely improved and I am a lot more confident with my interaction with technology and its use in enhancing teaching and learning.
