Pneumonia Buzzwords

Here's a number of buzzwords that can help trigger the cause of pneumonia: Young, healthy patient ---> Mycoplasma HIV patient with CD count less than 200 ---> Pneumocystis jiroveci Alcoholic patient, diabetics, chronic lung disease ---> Klebsiella or lung abscess Southwest desert exposure ---> Coccidiodomycosis, pneumonic plague Exposure to rabbits ---> Francisella tularensis Travel to southeast Asia ---> SARS Travel to Mexico ---> H1N1 Birds exposure ---> Chlamydia psittaci Birds droppings, spelunking, bats (recreational cave exploration) ---> Histoplasma capsulatum Whoop or post tussive vomiting ---> Bordetella pertusis Contaminated water sources, smoker, elderly ---> Legionella Exposure to animal while giving birth ---> Q fever Animal wools ---> wool sorter disease Rusty sputum ---> Streptoccocus pneumoniae Red Currant Jelly bloody sputum --->Klebsiella Foul smelling sputum ---> Anaerobes and lung abscess HIV patient or immunocomprased or third World ---> TB Cystic fibrosis ---> Pseudomonas Smoker and COPD ---> Haemophilus inflenzae Post viral (after influenza) ---> Staph aureus If you know more please add to the list

CF can also be Burkholderia cepacia or pseudomallei COPD can also be Moraxella catarrhalis
