LAST DOLLAR GRANT APPLICATION
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS CHECKLIST
Only graduates of the Columbus City School District are eligible to apply for the I KNOW I CAN (IKIC) Last
Dollar Grant. Applicants must apply within three years of their high school graduation date, be enrolled as a full-
time college student and have demonstrated financial need to be eligible for consideration of this award. An
applicant is eligible to receive the Last Dollar Grant for up to five years or upon attainment of your Bachelor’s
degree, whichever comes first. Graduates who enter the military immediately following high school will be
eligible to participate in the program if they apply within one year after leaving the military.

To be considered for a Last Dollar Grant (LDG), all applicants must meet the following deadlines:

June 1, 2008 or earlier:


□ Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
o Students need to submit their FAFSA by their school’s priority filing deadline date.
o Students must indicate on the FAFSA that they are interested in “student loans” and “work-
study” by choosing “Both work-study and student loans” on the student financial aid question.

July 1, 2008 or earlier:


□ Submit the Last Dollar Grant Application
o Applicants wanting funding for ANY part of the 2008-2009 academic year must meet this July 1,
2008 deadline.
o You may also print a copy of the application by going to www.iknowican.org.

July 15, 2008 or earlier:


Submit the following supporting documents to I KNOW I CAN in order to complete the Last Dollar Grant
application:

□ 2008-2009 Student Aid Report (SAR) - This is e-mailed or mailed to you after filing the Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Remember to file the FAFSA by your school’s
priority deadline. Your SAR/ISIR may be accessed from the FAFSA homepage at
www.fafsa.ed.gov.
□ Financial Aid Award Letter – Send IKIC a copy of your financial aid award from the college or
university you plan to attend.
□ High School transcript – (2008 high school graduates) You will need to submit your final high
school transcript that includes your final cumulative GPA. Recent high school graduates (2008)
must have a GPA of 2.25 or higher.
□ College transcript (unofficial or official) – 2007 or earlier high school graduates) You will need
to submit your college transcript with your cumulative Grade Point Average for the entire
2007-08 academic year. Current college students must maintain a 2.0 cumulative college GPA.
□ Service Hours (4 hours) – LDG grant recipients must submit confirmation of the completion of
their service hours to the IKIC office.

I KNOW I CAN does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, creed, color, national origin, physical handicap, sexual orientation, or age.
These guidelines may be amended from time to time by the I KNOW I CAN Board of Trustees. Nothing herein shall be deemed to
guarantee that every qualified Columbus City School District student will receive financial aid to finance his or her post-secondary
education. Students shall not rely on, or in any way plan on, receiving Last Dollar grants as the primary source for their post-secondary
education.
