Letterhead
Description: A Letterhead, and the front and back of a business card for a business I made up for visual media class. Date: 11/9/13 Course: Comm. 130, Section 06 Instructor: Julie Peterson Programs/Tools Used: Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign. Objectives: Consistent design throughout. Applying contact information: Include name, address, phone, and email on each piece. Use periods, bullets, or spaces in phone #; No parentheses/ hyphens. Process: I used the same company and logo from the business card and applied it to this. I first went into Adobe Illustrator and created the watermark and logo for the letterhead, then moved this to Adobe InDesign, made some minor adjustments and created the contact information at the top. I then took the fox separately, made it bigger and then used it for the watermark. The whole time I focused on keeping the white space empty in order to make things simple.

Brochure
Description: A two sided (duplex) brochure with a tri-fold. Made in Adobe InDesign for my Visual Media class. Date: 12/7/13 Course: Comm. 130, Section 06 Instructor: Julie Peterson Program(s) / Tools used: Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator Objectives: Set up and align a two-sided, folded document and incorporate quality images. Create and use an original company logo for the brochure. Contains at least 250 words, trim for a full bleed, and print in duplex color. Process: I the business I made for my business card and letterhead, and thought up a general idea of what I wanted that could best represent the company. I found an 1117 piece of paper and drew up the exact dimensions (6.5 in. x 14 in.) and details of the brochure(Im a little old school). I then use Adobe InDesign and created two 1117 pages and measured out the dimensions so that when I print them front and back they will be the same size. After perfecting the frame work, I typed up the headings and body copy, copied and enlarged the fox trademark; and then found images from Flickr that created repetition and flow. On the image of books, I used Adobe Photoshop to trace the outline. I then searched Google for two background images for the inside and outside of the brochure to make it look like a leather bound notebook. With Adobe Illustrator I created the fox with the pen tool, and Adobe Devanagari to make the font.

Montage
Description: This is a montage project for my visual media class, where the goal was to create an image with two picture blended together. Date: 10/26/13 Course: Comm. 130, Section 06 Instructor: Julie Peterson Programs/Tools Used: Adobe Photoshop Objectives: Blend two or more images together smoothly, using masks. Must use filters, apply appropriate typography, have good quality images and a consistent theme. Process: I first found two pictures off of Flickr that needed to be above 1600 pixels in order to achieve the best quality. Next I opened Adobe Photo Shop and placed them on a 8.511 in. page. I cropped the background and then masked the front image so I could slowly blend the two into each other. I applied a very light waterpaper filter over the whole image. Lastly I used a Jura regular font and added some affects to help it stand out. The quote is by William Shakespeare.

Imaging
Description: A photo I had taken for my visual media class while walking home from school on campus, and then edited using Adobe Photoshop. Date: 10/19/13 Course: Comm. 130, Section 06 Instructor: Julie Peterson Programs/Tools Used: Nikon CoolPix, Adobe Photoshop Objectives: Take a quality image with a digital camera. Isolate, desaturate, and colorize or apply a filter to a portion of the image. Must be 6x6 in. with 150 resolution. Process: I took this picture using my Nikon Cool-pix camera, its a small point and shoot, but Ive had it for years and it does the job nicely. I then uploaded the image into Photoshop and cropped it into a 6 x 6 inch square. I then, with the quick selection tool, selected everything but the fire hydrant and desaturated it. Lastly I applied some light Film Grain filter to the desaturated portions of the picture. The most frustrating part about doing images like this is that it must be edited in order, and if someone makes a mistake then it must be redone from the begnning.

Webpage
Description: This is a webpage I created to showcase a logo I designed for my visual media class. Date: 11/23/13 Course: Comm. 130, Section 06 Instructor: Julie Peterson Programs/Tools Used: Adobe Illustrator, Notepad++ Objectives: Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page using HTML and CSS. Design a new or previous logo to feature on a web page. Must be 300 to 500 pixels. Write content describing the process of creating the logo and how it appeals to a target audience. Process: I created this webpage using Notepad++ on my PC. I took previous HTML and CSS documents and rebuilt my website structure using them. After placing all the content. I used an image of a logo I designed in Adobe Illustrator for a previous assignment. I changed the body text to Times New Roman, and Verdana. I placed all of the content in one folder and linked the image to the HTML and CSS. The colors I found by using a hex color code tool so that the page could be matched up with the logo. I lastly padded the alignment of the logo so that it would be centered.

Description: A Color Full-Bleed Flier for a local Pallet Company using only Microsoft Word and a scanner for the picture. Date: 10/12/13 Course: Comm. 130, Section 06 Instructor: Julie Peterson Program(s) / Tools used: Microsoft Word 2007, Epson Scanner, PDF2JPG. net Objectives: Find, scan and import a high-quality image in Word. Insert and edit images, and create a full-bleed design, use text boxes for layout. Process: I first started with scanning the picture from a magazine onto the computer where I turned it into a JPG and then moved it to Microsoft Word where I can create the flier. I received some information of when and where the safety meeting was taking place. Then I used the Microsoft Word to make boxes and shapes designed around the picture. I only used two different fonts and two images, one of which being the logo from the company. After I finished the flier, I saved it as a PDF and then converted it into a JPG using PDF2JPG.net.

Logos
Description: This is a project from my visual media class, our assignment was to create three different logos of the same company. Date: 11/2/13 Course: Comm. 130, Section 06 Instructor: Julie Peterson Programs/Tools Used: Adobe Illustrator Objectives: Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image. Set up a professional display for the company. Do not imitate existing logos or your previous designs. Process: I first brain stormed a bit on what type of company I was going to make up, and then sketched several different logos on paper. Next I went on to Adobe illustrator and created my best three. For the top logo I simply used Perpetua font and enlarged the front two letters of the words. The middle I used two different fonts, Nexus bold and light. Then I used the pen tool to design the fox that sits on the letter R. For the bottom, I used a Rage Italic font and created a sort of company stamp. I finished it by sealing it up with a red oval shape.

Flier
Description: A black and white flier project given to me by my professor from a visual design class to promote a leadership conference for graduates. Date: 10/5/13 Course: Comm. 130, Section 06 Instructor: Julie Peterson Program(s) / Tools used: Adobe InDesign Objectives: Create a flier for a company with information and links your instructor assigns to you. Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography to improve the basic layout. Retrieve image and logo from links from instructor. Process: I first made a few hand drawn sketches of the flier until I came up with the best design and then I used Adobe Indesign to create the best one. I used rulers for alignment, a box theme to create proximity and a repetitious look throughout the page; white space, 12 pt font for the main body copy for easy reading, and contrast throughout the page to add balance. Our instructor gave us one logo and a few options for images to use and I applied the best one. Its not very colorful, but the image was black and white, which is why I used a black, white and gray box theme.
