Lost in Dreams The Portfolio of Sean Kyle Irvin William Steele, 2013

In dreams, it is said that wings represent a release of creative forces, that they give us the ability to understand and transend the human condition. In religion, wings appear on angels, faeries, spirits and demons. In mythology, winged creatures are often messengers of the gods; they are a symbol of freedom and spirituality and a character having one wing is said to be lost in dreams. -James C. Christensen

Learn to manage Photoshop layers.Learn to blend images together smoothly, using masks. (Two or more images)Use filters. (Apply at least one) Apply appropriate typography. Choosing good quality images. (Note background should be at least 16501275 pixels) Apply typography principles (titles, quotes, events or scripturesyour choice) Unifying a piece with a consistent theme

Process

I selected a seires of five pictures that worked with the quote and theme I had in mind, then spent time aligning them into correct order. After that I went through and removed each ones individual background, then applied various levels of transparency to each one, with the middle character receving the most and each one going outward getting more and more solid. I then applied the Poster Edges filter over it all, then added in the quote in AR Bonnie. I added some transparency and strong drop shadows for effect to the text.

Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. Create an original company logo and use it in a brochure. Incorporate quality images. (Incorporate at least four quality images (Not including the logo). One should be clipped in Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign so the text follows the cutout shape of the image.) Write at least 250 words of original copy with at least three paragraphs. Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.

Process

Once I got the idea and rough outline figured out, I sat down and wrote out the body copy first, then moved the look of the bochure. I found the two images I wanted as backgrounds, laid them out, then created a white outline of the franchises signature skull twice-one with the eyes, nose, and teeth, while the other was completely cut out. I cut the second one in half and put each half on opposite sides to indicate clearly what should be cut out. After that, I applied the text, gave them respresentaive fonts, and got it to wrap around the skulls, then put on the logos for both companies as well as my own on the back.

Use periods, bullets, or spaces in phone #; No parentheses/ hyphens.

Process

I developed a new logo based on Drawing Hands by M.C. Escher with the hand holding a match instead of a pen, and placed two copies of the image on the letter, making the lower one larger and more transparent. I then applied some lines at the top anad bottom to make it look professional, then added my infromation in the top left corner. I then went to the background and applied a subtle gradient from orange to pink to the background.

Use periods, bullets, or spaces in phone #; No parentheses/ hyphens.

Process

This project followed the letterhead. I took the logo from that and made it the centerpiece for the backside of the card, and then did a similar positioning to the letterhead on this one-put the main logo in the upper right corner, flip the image, and put that in the lower left, and make that one transparent. I finished by putting my information in the middle.

Course/Instructor Objectives

Visual Media(COMM 130-06) Julie Peterson

Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image (at least 3 new logos). Do not imitate existing logos or use your previous designs. Use only the tools of Illustrator. (No photos on logo page) Setting up a professional display for the company. Arrange three logos on an 8.5 x 11 vertical page / .5 margins and add the company name in simple type at the top of page. Getting feedback from outside sources. Ask ten people to select their favorite logo. List the results, along with your favorite, in your blog post.

Process

For the first logo, I typed down the company name, put it over a picture of a starry night, and used a clipping mask to get the effect I was going for. For the second, I went with a more sketchy approach, used a more artsy text, and drew out a little flame symbol based on the beginning letters of each word in the company name. For the final one, I worte the name in a flowing script, tilted it down, and then drew triangles over it on another layere. I then removed each triangle in such a way that ir broke up the text below according to the lines of the trangles. I then scattered the pieces a little bit and turned them purple.

Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography. Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout. Retrieve image and logo from links on this page. Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links intact.

Process

After I had received my materials and decided on my general sense of flow, I arranged the materials out on the page in such a way that would keep it flowing in a cicle on the page. I added a triangle to the background of the body copy to facilitate this, and otherwise just played with the text to keep the flow going certain ways.

Find, scan and import a high-quality image. Create a full-bleed design. Use text boxes for layout in Word. Insert and edit images in Word.

Once I gained an idea of what the event was we were promoting, I decided on a picture and made that my main piece. I had it in my mind to make this a more staggered presentation, so I created text boxes in a semi-haphaard way, and then applied the text and diffent colors to each one. I then adjusted the sizes of each box unti l got the feel right.
