Event Ad
Description: This is a hypothetical event I have created, in which a lawn mowing fundraiser is promoted. Process: I looked through magazines, found an image, scanned and cropped it, and then continued to add text boxes and other graphics around it. I used different fonts and sizes, as well as implimenting the principles of design into my image. I tried to make it simple and to the point, with the tag line Think. Green. to catch the eye. I also used primarily a green and black color scheme on the flyer to give it a bold look.

Imaging
Description: This is a digital picture that I captured and edited on Photoshop. I applied the rule of thirds in the design, along with emphasis and proximity to help create a more pleasing image. Process: I used my Canon t4i digital SLR to capture this photo on the BYU-Idaho campus. From there I uploaded the image onto a mac computer, and used Photoshop to crop, edit, de-saturate, and add a filter onto it. I brought down the saturation by about 50% and then used the Diffuse Glow filter to brighten up parts of the photo; this gave the apples an extra shine that didnt exist in the original image. I also outlined one apples in the lower left quadrant to draw the eye and reveal what the true color originally was. I did this using the magnet tool in Photoshop, and then pressing inverse to distort the background. This allowed for that one apple to stay original in color.

Montage
Description: This is a montage poster I created to complete an assignment. I went with a religious theme and combined two pictures together. I did this because it has special meaning to me and I thought others on campus would share in that meaning. Process: I grabbed a photo of the stars and also a separate photo of a tree. I then used the brush tool, after making white space on my layers, to blend the images together. I was trying to make the tree blend into the universe smoothly. I had to use different portions of the universe picture multiple times to make this work. After blending I placed the text in the corner, with two separate text boxes so I could align better. I like how the tree branch sections off that portion of the poster. I then used a Gaussian Filter on a blue rectangle I placed behind the text so it would pop out more. This was all done in Photoshop.

Logos
Description: These are three logos I have come up with for a hypothetical tree house building company called Tree Box. Each one shows different text/design to bring out the theme of the company. Process: I used Illustrator to create these three logos mostly using the pen tool (add/subtract) to make, delete, and alter anchor points on my text. In this way I created my own text in some aspects. I also used rectangle tools along with color swatches to create these. I tried to keep it simple.

Business Card
Description: This is a project I worked on for a hypothetical insurance company. I created the logo, the company idea, and the design of these cards. Process: I had to first think of a logo. I began with a different company -- a real company that I have been thinking of starting -- but the logo just wasnt working out. Then I stared thinking about simplistic logos and shapes I could create. A cloud came to mind and I began to work with that idea. In the end I created four different logos -- three for RainCloud Insurance, and one for BalloonCloud Balloon Co. I then narrowed it down to one logo for RainCloud.

Letterhead
Description: This letterhead stationary was designed in unison with the Rain Cloud Insurance business card. The designs in each of these projects are meant to mirror eachother. Process: I had to first think of a logo. I began with a different company -- a real company that I have been thinking of starting -- but the logo just wasnt working out. Then I stared thinking about simplistic logos and shapes I could create. A cloud came to mind and I began to work with that idea. In the end I created four different logos -three for RainCloud Insurance, and one for BalloonCloud Balloon Co. I then narrowed it down to one logo for RainCloud.

Brochure
Description: I created this brochure for a hypothetical Insurance company I created. I made up the cloud logo, slogan because we all have rainy days... and company name RainCloud Insurance. I used a blue color scale to give a theme to the brochures appearance. I also thought of the content given in this brochure, which includes background stories of fake customers, as well as a new Mix and Match insurance policy program, where customers get to choose from 15 different policies to create their own. Process: I created the logo in Illustrator, and moved it from there into In Design. The rest of the work was done there. This project was actually a spin-off from another previous project of mine, so the logo and company was already created. Coming up with the content of the project was a step I needed to create. This is where the back stories come in to play; I needed at least 250 words, and the two stories and how they relate to RainCloud provide that. The explanation of the Mix and Match Policy also contributes to this.

Web Page
Description: This is a webpage that I designed for the fictional insurance company RainCloud. The webpage uses the color schemes found in the logo, with the background and some text a light blue, and the body text a dark grey. Process: I had to download a CSS and an HTML template, connect them by putting them in the same folder and rewriting some code, and then start changing things around. I used Text Wrangler to rewrite parts of the code, along with the website www.cssdesk. com. Then I took a screenshot of the finished product, and put it into Photoshop for cropping.

Flier
Description: This is the first project I have accomplished using any Adobe program. The pictures and text were provided, and I had the assignment to rearrange and design this flier. It had to be in black and white, and it had to include one of many pictures provided. it also had to include all the heading and body text provided. Process: The program I used to create this flier was InDesign. This was my first time using this program, and I learned how to upload and insert photos correctly, how to use many of the program tools, and how to adjust settings to appropriately print and post this flier. Design principles were practiced and implemented to give the flier good flow, proximity, alignment, and contrast.
