METHOD OF STATEMENT
FOR NON-REINFORCED CONCRETE DISPLACEMENT PILES
EXECUTED WITH THE LBR255 DRILLING RIG
IN DOROBANTU SITE, CONSTANTA COUNTY

A. Assembling and Dismounting Procedure:

a. The flat-bed truck has to be set on a horizontally levelled position over a well
compacted platform.
b. LBR255 Drilling Rig is unloaded by starting the engine and moving it with very
slow speed, till the crawlers are out of the flat-bed truck.
c. The drilling rig, having the boom on horizontal position is moved into position.
d. The crawlers are opened from the transport position (3,18m wide) to the
working position (4,70m wide).
e. Installation of all the safety bolts, nuts, and other on the boom.
f. The working wire ropes are installed from the transport position (as coils) into
the working position (straight, rolled on the guide rolls).
g. The boom is raised, on vertical position.
h. The hydraulic head, together with the concrete pipes are mounted on the boom.
i. The counterweight No.2 is risen on the upper carriage. The upper carriage is
transported on the site on another flat-bad truck. The rising is made with a
minimum 12tons auxiliary crane.
j. All necessary boom extensions are mounted up to reach the necessary drilling
length.
k. The main wire rope is positioned on the boom and on the main guide roller.
l. The hydraulic engine (rotary head) is raised on the boom, using the Kelly jib.

m. All concrete hoses are installed on the drilling rig, starting from the hydraulic
head to the concrete pump, without connecting it with the pump. All couplings are
secure with metallic 2-3mm wire, in order not to dismount during the works.
n. The boom foot plate is installed and tested.
o. The guiding clamp of the drilling column is attached to the boom.
p. The boom foot plate (hydraulic) is mounted on the boom.
q. All hydraulic command and control hoses are fitted on the drilling rig.
r. The hydraulic oil level is checked, and completed if necessary.
s. The drilling column is raised on the rotary head, as following: first the drilling
tool is fixed on the rotary head and pushed into the soil up to the necessary height
to allow rising of the next part; the next part is fixed into the rotary head, lifted
with the drilling rig crane (kelly jib) and fixed on the head of the drilling tool; all
are pushed into the soil.
t. The drilling column parts rising is repetitive up to the last part. The last part is
connected to the rotary head. All security bolts are fixed and secured, to protect
against dismounting during works.
u. The drilling rig, having all elements raised reaching the maximum operating
weight, is moved forwards and backwards to check the stability of the rig on the
platform.
v. The concrete pump is set, as following: check if there are any old concrete into
the pump; check the sealing of the concrete pump angle valve; all concrete hoses
are installed.
w. The concrete pump diesel engine is started and using the remote control/command
box, movement of the pump forwards and backwards verifies the crawlers.
x. Before starting the works final connections between the drilling rig concrete
network and the concrete pump are made.

B. Dismounting the drilling rig:

The dismounting of the drilling rig is the same procedure followed backwards.
C. Drilling rig transport into the site:
On short distances and on good condition road (horizontally levelled and suitable
for heavy load traffic) the drilling rig can be transported on its own crawler
system, completely mounted, having the drilling column on the boom and the
boom foot plate risen up. Care must be taken not to get in touch with any aerial or
high voltage electrical lines.
If such lines are on the way, it is important to dismount the drilling column, to
bring down the boom at almost horizontal position, to be able to pass under the
aerial lines. The minimum distance from the upper drilling rig part and the aerial
lines must be minimum 4 meters.
D. Calibration / Testing of drilling equipment:
Before starting the soil improvement works calibration /testing of the drilling
equipment is performed drilling a pile outside the foundation area, on a position
the Contractor may define.
Concreting may be tested as well if the contractor / beneficiary require checking
the concrete relative consumption for the pile.
In case the contractor / beneficiary require, the calibration pile may be the testing
pile or can be one of the active foundation piles.

E. Working procedure:

1. After checking that the access road and the working platform are suitable, the soil
improvement Executors representative on site signs together with the
Contractors representative the Taking over Handing over Report for the
working area.
2. Before starting piling works the marking of pile positions is made as described in
the Technical Contractual Conditions, Project Design and Execution Design
approved by the Authorized Verifier.
3. The Contractor will provide the pilings Executor with minimum 2(two) fixed
bench-marks and the axes/centre of the soil improvement area and signing of the
Taking over Handing over Report for Marking is done.
4. Before starting the piling works, the Executor has to receive the Start Order for
works and copy of the Contractors letter to the State Inspection in Construction
informing about the beginning of the works and copy of the construction permit.
5

5. Having all necessary documentation submitted, including those for Health &
Safety, the Executor starts transporting the equipment into the working area, the
Drilling rig and the auxiliary equipment are set-up for the piling works.
6. The drilling tool is fixed on top of the piles axe, the verticality of the drilling
column and the boom are verified by two measurements:
- by the electronic measuring equipment of the drilling rig;
- by the operator assistant, using the balance level in two different points located
at 90o apart on the boom.
7. The disposable tip / wooden plug is placed on the toe of the drilling tool and
drilling starts until the necessary depth as described in the Technical Contractual
Conditions, Project Design and Execution Design.
8. Shortly aster drilling starts, the vertical drilling column hollow stern must be filled
with concrete, to assure that internal pressure of the concrete network is sustained
and the disposable tip / wooden plug is held in place.
9. Reaching the necessary depth (measured by the drilling rig command computer) ,
the drilling column is raised 20cm from the toe and concrete starts being pumped
into the borehole from the toe to the surface, rotating the auger column the same
way out as it was drilled in.
10.The same working procedure is applied for all piles made into the same day.
11. Starting with the execution of the first pile it is necessary to have a continuous
supply of concrete until the termination of piling for the day.
12. Finishing the last pile for the day, the concrete pump and drilling rig concrete
network MUST be washed with water of approximately 1m and 2m respectively.
Washing is performed on the working platform, near the last constructed pile,
without harming the next pile position.
13.The results of washing the concrete pump and the rigs concrete network are two
accumulations of concrete and water. It is very important to mention that finishing

the piling works, 1,5-2,0m of concrete will remain in the concrete network which
MUST be washed out as soon as possible, to avoid blockages.
14.The aids of a small excavator (JCB) is needed at all times to be present on site and
maintain the working platforms level clear in order for the rig to move from a
finished pile to another pile position by clearing any remaining concrete excess
left on the surface or by backfilling the top of a finished pile from the point where
concreting terminates till the surface level. That length is mentioned in the Bill of
Quantities form as piles free length. Assistance on hose local transportation will
also be required.
15.During the daily piling works, in case the concrete supply is interrupted for any
reason for more than 30 minutes, it is MANDATORY to wash the concrete
network in order to avoid blockages.
16. Refuelling is made only by the operators assistant, having the drilling rig on
working position (even when drilling or concreting). The fuel transfer to the
drilling rig tank is performed by the rigs fuel pump, even when the drilling rig is
performing drilling work. During the movement of the rig, the fuel pump is
automatically stopped.
17. In case the rig fuel pump is out of order, the refuelling can be made by a hand
driven fuel pump, in order to avoid fuel leakages on the ground.
18.Refilling with hydraulic oil, engine oil, gear box oil is performed only having the
drilling rig stopped and with the engine off. Refilling will be done using the handdrive pump or a funnel.
