READING/LANGUAGE ARTS
This week students got to practice the skill of inferring. Every day they heard a new story. They had to infer throughout the story by connecting their prior knowledge with evidence from the text to figure something out. Each day they wrote about something they inferred in each story. They learned about possessive nouns. Possessive nouns are nouns that need an apostrophe when they own something, such as, The womans cat was sleeping. They practiced plural nouns by making a plural noun wallet. !t was a construction paper folded and split into three sections to resemble a wallet. The sections were labeled s, "es, "ies. They got index cards and had to write different nouns singular one on side and plural on the other with the correct ending. They put the index card into the correct wallet slot. #e also worked in reading groups and center time. The centers include read to self, word work, work on writing, and independent work. #ord work includes materials to practice spelling and sight words. They can practice in several ways, such as carving the words into playdoh, using magnetic letters on trays, stamping them, rainbow writing, etc. #hile students work during these rotations, ! pull out a few at a time to work on specific skills.
