Special Issue

The Policy Context of Race to the Top and

The Future of Principal Preparation Programs

Sheneka M. Williams & Ed Fuller Guest Editors

The Journal of Research on Leadership Education (JRLE) is planning a special issue that focuses on the policy context of Race to the Top and other legislation that impact principal preparation and evaluation. We are seeking articles that address topics such as, but not limited to, the following:

Impact of the policy context of Race to the Top/NCLB Waivers on the preparation of school and district leaders, including the supply, recruitment, preparation, and placement of students

Analysis of principal preparation program evaluation systems

The role of increased deregulation and competition on the principal preparation marketplace and the effect these trends have on principal preparation programs, including: changes in coursework and content; changes in requirements; adoption of on-line and hybrid delivery systems; and, conflicts between state and national standards

Analysis of changes in principal preparation programs brought about by current policy efforts and the effect of such changes on program outcomes

This special issue would help ameliorate the paucity of research in these important policy areas

that impact principal preparation.

Submitted manuscripts could be empirical or theoretical, although greater emphasis will be given to works with an empirical basis.

Potential authors will be identified in two ways: (a) by invitation based on authors’ scholarly work; and (b) through a general call for manuscripts.
