Problem Statement:

Design a solar system for a rural telecom tower as below 4.4 Kwp of total capacity of solar panels (18 modules 250 Wp each). The parameters of the modules are as the data sheet attached. The BTS/ LOAD is 1KW constant load.

The proposed system should have the following layout:

Charge controller:
Features: System should be retro fitted to existing system with aim to maximize the use of existing components. Optimize the use of solar energy. Choose energy on priority basis: (i) Solar + Battery. (ii) Grid. (iii) Battery.

(iv) Diesel Generator. Detailed design of the charge controller is not expected. Using of the shelf products is allowed, provided a competitive analysis of similar products in market should be provided; with strong reasoning on sue of the product recommended by the team.

Expectations:
The team should define all possible scenarios that system can/should implement so that solar energy is not wasted. The battery description should be as below. The charging and discharging cycles of battery should be taken into consideration/ detailed specification of battery should be recommended. The battery should be VRLA lead acid AGM type/ Lithium ion (with justification for choice of battery). Sizing of battery should be provided. If component level design (with of the shelf modules like programmable charge controllers etc.) is provided will be subject to 10% extra points. Cost limit of the charge controller should be less than INR 70,000 / Module Mounting structure: The structure frames and leg assemblies of the array structures shall be made mild steel, hot dip galvanized as per IS 2062: 1992 and galvanized as per IS4759 or latest relevant IS code. Should be designed in such a way that is easy to install on rural location on a remote site. The mounting should be theft proof. The structure should be designed for a wind speed of 170 km/h. The modules shouldn't be easily accessible min height of ground of modules should be 2.5mtrs. The Total weight of structure should be less than 650 Kg. Basic structure design calculations should be provided. Detail calculations if provided will be given extra 10% points (subject to accuracy of design

Rules and Judging Criterion:

1. Team of max. 4 will be allowed.

2. Only 2 members are allowed for presenting the solution. 3. Judging criterion will be based on marks given by judges and companys official. 4. The decision of coordinators will be considered final.
