TESTING
When using the unit, all that is necessary is an occasional observation that the
working pressure is being maintained within the infated frame. Where optional
compensation tubes are not ftted it may be necessary to top up the frame pressure
when experiencing large drops in ambient temperature.
Should infation not be maintained, it will be necessary to trace the source of the
leakage. This can easily be carried out by brushing the suspect area of the frame
with soapy water and watching for bubbles. t should be noted that, due to the type of
fabrics used in the construction of the CUPOLA shelters, there may sometimes
be visual evidence of miniscule white bubbles, which form a line of froth at the seams
and joints of the unit. This is recognised within the industry as 'lateral leakage',
and is simply air that is trapped within the layer of nylon between the rubber coatings,
forcing its way to the nearest available edge of the fabric. This type of leakage will
never affect the performance of an infatable shelter during the course of an
operation or exercise, and can be safely ignored. However, if there is evidence of
large, transparent bubbles, this is clear evidence that there is a leak that must be
repaired at the earliest convenience.
The most common cause of air-loss is leaking valves. f the valves have not been
tightened properly prior to infation, or if grit, grass or any other foreign matter is
affecting the seating, there can be a signifcant drop in pressure over a short period.

Valves must be kept clean at all times and must be carefully examined prior to
infation of the unit.
Valves can also be checked using the soapy water method stated above.
Should any part, on inspection, be found to be damaged or defective, it should be
replaced immediately.
REPAIR
f leaks are found in the framework tubes, or if the canopy or foor fabrics are
found to be damaged, it will be necessary to make repairs as soon as is practically
possible.
A repair kit is provided containing materials & full instructions. t should be noted
that all repairs to the infatable frame, foor fabric and external groundsheet must
be carried out using the correct materials, for example repairs to the lining must be
carried out using the polyurethane-based materials provided.
Note: Not all materials are compatible; therefore the correct material should be used
to carry out any repair.
Temporary repairs should be followed up by permanent repairs at the earliest
convenience.

REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS
Inhatable Frame.
a) Clean the surface around the damaged area, and abrade with emery cloth
provided. The repair patch should always cover the damaged area by a
minimum of 25mm all around (repair patch is supplied ready-abraded).
b) The repair patch should be used as a template to mark the repair area before
the rubber-based adhesive is applied.
c) Apply one thin uniform coat of rubber-based adhesive to repair area and patch
and allow to dry. NOTE: Too much adhesive makes a weaker repair!
d) Apply a second thin coat of rubber-based adhesive to the repair area and
patch.
e) Allow to become tacky to the touch, then press patch frmly into position.
f) The repair should then be pushed fat using a spatula, or any similar tool that
allows the application of pressure to the whole area, whilst ensuring there are
no air bubbles left under the patch.
g) f possible, allow to cure for 24 hours before re-use. f infation is to take place
immediately then it will be necessary to support the repair patch using ducting
tape wrapped around the frame and patch prior to full pressure infation.
h) Once infated, check repaired areas of the infatable frame with soapy water
and observe for any signs of leakage.
Liner & Sump Repairs.
For temporary repairs required during the use of the Decontamination unit, the area
being repaired should be thoroughly dried and patched using ducting tape.
More permanent repairs should be undertaken by Hughes Safety Showers or by one
of thier site service personel. Hughes Safety Showers will complete the repairs using
a similar to the procedure to that used for the nfatable Frame, but ensuring that the
correct materials and adhesive are used which are different for the Liner and the
Sump.
CLEANING
Cleaning should be carried out with plain soap & water, strong detergents, bleach or
any type of hydrocarbons are NOT to be used.
STORAGE
f a long period of storage is envisaged the Shelter should be thoroughly cleaned and
dried before being packed.
t can then be liberally dusted with French chalk of talcum before being re-packed
into the Valise.
The best storage conditions are in cold, dry, dark places which are away from hot
pipes or stoves. f possible, the Shelter should be stored off the ground on a pallet or a
strong shelf.
t is recommended that the Shelter be taken out of its Valise at 6 monthly intervals,
and be fully erected for a general check on the condition of the fabric and all
component fttings.
