Surround Sound Basics

Overview Surround Sound Basics is an introductory seminar for sound engineers, mixers, sound recordists, post production people, systems and broadcast engineers and technical managers. It provides the knowledge and skills needed to understand, evaluate and apply modern surround sound systems and coding standards in a production or broadcast environment. It builds the basis for production and engineering oriented surround sound seminars and is a Dolby approved training course.

LEARNING OUTCOMES Basics of hearing and spatial perception, channel formats Microphone setups for surround sound capturing Signal routing, panning and mixing Key technologies: AD-conversion, clocking and synchronization, interfaces Dolby E in a production and broadcast workflow, hardware and software coding Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus in an advanced broadcast workflow System design and integration in SD, HD and IPTV infrastructures TRAINER PROFILE

WHO SHOULD ATTEND Sound engineers, mixers, sound recordists, post production people, systems and broadcast engineers and technical managers.

Karl M. Slavik (Dipl. Paed. Ing.) is owner of ARTECAST, senior engineer and consultant. He is working in the audio, video and broadcast industry since 1981, holding different positions in production (sound engineer, video engineer and producer) and systems engineering. He studied electronics and telecommunications as well as vocational pedagogics with an emphasis on communications & audiovisual media. From 1999 to 2005 he worked for the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation ORF, where he was responsible for implementing surround Sound and Dolby technologies. Karl M.
