New Installation and Upgrade Guide

GO TO STEP 1 IF PERFORMING UPGRADES FROM SAP GUI 7.10 VERSION THEN CONTINUE TO STEP 2 GO TO STEP 2 IF PERFORMING BRAND NEW SAP GUI 7.20 INSTALLATION Step 1. Uninstall the SAP GUI:
a. Log on to the PC or Workstation as user with local administrator rights b. Go to Add/Remove software in your Control panel, and uninstall both i. SAPGUI 7.10 ii. SAP Business Explorer c. Delete the folder C:\Program files\SAP (the whole folder) d. Delete the SAPWORKDIR folder i. For XP - C:\Documents and Settings\%user%\SAPWORKDIR ii. For Vista\Win7 - C:\Users\%user%\SapWorkDir iii. Do this for each user profile on the computer using SAP GUI. e. If uninstalling SAPGUI 7.20 Delete the folder; i. For XP - C:\Documents and Settings\%user%\Application Data\SAP ii. For Vista\Win7 C:\Users\%user%\AppData\Roaming\SAP f. Delete from the Registry (backup your registry first): i. HKey_Current User\Software\SAP (the whole folder) ii. HKey_Local Machine\Software\SAP (the whole folder) g. Open, using Notepad, services file located under C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc i. Remove lines that start with sapdp, sapgw, & sapms ii. Save file h. Reboot

Step 2. Install the SAP GUI:


a. b. c. d. Log on to PC as user with local admin rights Ensure all applications are closed. A/V software should be OK to leave running. If the Operating system is Windows XP, go to step 2e If the operating system is Windows Vista or Windows 7 you may have to disable the User Account Control (UAC). If your first install attempt exits within 30 seconds you should disable UAC and try again. To disable UAC in:

i. VISTA:
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Launch MSCONFIG from the Run menu. Click on the Tools tab. Scroll down till you find "Disable UAC". Click on that line. Press the Launch button. Page 1 of 2

6. A CMD window will open. When the command is done, you can close the window. 7. Close MSCONFIG. 8. You need to reboot the computer for changes to apply.

ii. WINDOWS 7:
1. 2. 3. 4. Click on Start Click on Control Panel Click on System and Security In the Action Center section, click on Change User Account Control Settings. 5. Drag the slider to Never Notify. 6. Click OK. 7. The system will prompt you to reboot. e. Double Click the file SAPGUI720Installer.cmd f. If installing on Vista or Windows 7, you may be run into possible issues with UAC settings during install g. Wait for install to complete h. You may be asked to Press any key to continue i. Enable UAC if previously disabled and desired j. To run SAP GUI, click on Start >> All Programs >> SAP Frontend >> SAP Logon Pad
