CLUB FORUM

My brief notes from the forum. NB could be unreliable.

President Giacomo reported that PDG Ron Geary will be in charge of the 50th Birthday party
and PP Petro Recchia will be in charge of other 50th year events.

Grant Geary reported on Youth (New Generations); We need nominees for RYLA, RYPEN, etc.
Grant thanked PP Peter Anderson for bringing the Tranby PS gardens project to the Club and
for joining the Youth committee to progress the project

PP Mike Davies (Membership) requested two nominations from each existing member so we
can net 17 new members this year to be 50 at 50.

PP Peter Anderson requested members go through the proper channels and not go outside
the Board.

PDG Allan Briant asked about Club accounts. President Giacomo responded that he will
keep a copy of audited accounts to make available to any member who requests to see them.

PP Petro Recchia reported on Club 50th things. Would like to see 50 projects for our 50th
year.

PP Carlo Giudice asked about the Club Directory. President Giacomo responded that two
people are still not financial but had indicated they would be paid up. When this was resolved
an accurate directory will be published. Soon.

PP Graeme Jarred asked when the 50th year was going to start. After a short discussion it
was agreed that the 50th year is 1st July 2009 to 30th June 2010, i.e. this Rotary year.

PP Peter Anderson noted that 4 members were non-starters at the DG visit and that this puts
pressure on Club finances.

Sorry but the Acting assistant unpaid and unappreciated bulletin editor Mike had to
leave at 12:30 and it seemed that the meeting was going to go on a bit. I think there
was more discussion of the 50th year.

Dear General Coordinator, PDG Yarker and All 2009-10 Health and Hunger Resource
Group Leaders

Greeting from Ray C. Chang, zone 10B Health and Hunger Coordinator.

During August 7th and 8th, typhoon Morakot invaded Taiwan. Simply within the two days, she
brought a record-breaking 2,000mm (80 inches) of heavy rain to southern Taiwan (the amount
equivalent to the regions averaged cumulative annual rainfall) and created serious landslide and
floods. It had not only destroyed more than 70 bridges and numerous roads, but also created
serious mudslides which submerged Hsiaolin village of Kaohsiung County overnight and brought
heavy losses to local native villages. So far, we already know that at least 400 people were buried
alive, many houses were flushed away or brought down by sudden floods or covered by mud and
stones up to two-story high. Farms or even the whole village were buried in a widespread of mud
and cannot be found. The whole situation is horrifying and its the most serious flood in Taiwan in
half a century. You may have already seen all these scenes through media like CNN.

Within the week after the disaster, people from all over Taiwan have devoted themselves in the
rescue effort providing food, drinking water, clothes, and groceries to those in need. However,
most of the disaster areas were located in the mountains and were isolated by the broken bridges
and roads, seriously hindering the rescue efforts. Despite being faced with this kind of tough
obstacles, our government and people are still continuing the rescue work.

Members of Taiwan Rotary Club immediately made donations or volunteered to participate in the
rescue work when the disaster happened. Our 7 Rotary District Governors in Taiwan also initiated
a unified donation activity. RI President John Kenny also made a call to RI Director Jackson
Hsieh to express his deep concern over the situation when he stopped over Hong Kong during his
flight trip and learnt about the disaster. The Shelter Box in our Rotary Club sent three
representatives from UK to Taiwan and brought with them 100 sets of shelter boxes which could
provide temporary shelter for 1,000 people. Our Rotarians in Taiwan also plan to build assembly
house for those disaster family, especially for those students should move to other place to study
after their local school was destroyed. With the upcoming back-to-school in early September, there
are so many children from the impacted families who can not afford to pay for their tuitions,
uniforms, or schoolbags. These children are in desperate need of our help and concerns. The only
way to prevent their poverty in the future is to let them have better education now. Therefore,
helping the children in the disaster area to be duly educated will be one of the goals of our Rotary
Club.

We sincerely hope that your esteemed Zone could exert the spirit of The Future of Rotary is in
your Hands and join us to Lend a Hand.

Sincerely Yours,
Zone 10B Coordinator
PDG Plastic (Ray C. Chang)

I LOVE COOKING WITH WINE …………….Sometimes I even put it in the

Reality is only an illusion that occurs due to a lack of alcohol.

As a senior citizen was driving down the freeway, his car phone rang. Answering,
he heard his wife's voice urgently warning him, "Herman, I just heard on the news
that there's a car going the wrong way on the freeway.
Please be careful!" "It's not just one car," said Herman. "It's hundreds of them!"

Today stretches ahead of me, waiting to be shaped.
And here I am, the sculptor who gets to do the
shaping. What today will be like is up to me. I get to
