3. Garage foundation wall

The combination of concrete masonry block and poured concrete spread the load of the garage and structure to the surrounding earth. The foundation also provides a level surface for the garage to be built on.

4. Brick ledge
A Brick ledge is part of the foundation wall, and serves as a level base for the installation of brick later in the construction process.

5. Foundation wall at first floor framing

The first floor framing sits on top of the mudsill, which allows for the framing to be securely fastened to the foundation. The foundation carries the load of the first floor to the surrounding earth.

7. Floor joist sill plate with anchoring devices

The floor joist sill plate is used to anchor the wall frames to the foundation. The type of anchor used is typically a j- bolt, and wraps around the sill plate to ensure the frame is affixed to the foundation.

8. Floor framing with bridging

cross-bridging and solid blocking are used to counteract the maximum bending moment at the middle of the beam.

9. Basement steel beam support for floor framing

An I beam is used as support for the load of the floors above. The load is spread across the length of the beam, is carried to a column, and eventually is spread to the foundation.

10. Basement steel beam support at exterior wall

A steel beam sits on the foundation wall, and is bolted to the joist system above it. The beam carries the load of the structure to the foundation.

12. Exterior wall framing with corner bracing

Exterior wall frames with corner bracing may be required by code in some areas, and are a form of protection for the structure from lateral loads resulting from high winds.

13. Exterior sliding door framing

A sliding door is mounted on a track, so the frame is slightly more complicated than a regular door frame. the header and studs carry the load of the structure out and around the door and into the foundation.
