Job Advertisement Position: Receptionist Location: Black Student Advising Centre (BSAC, Room 418 of the Student Union Building) Job Description & Duties: Greeting all individuals/ groups that access the Centre. Corresponding via email, phone, fax, Facebook, twitter and in-person with inquirers, students, professors, others from within and outside of the Dalhousie community regarding BSAC (and other relevant) events, information sessions, and professional development opportunities. Making (student and community) referrals to appropriate services both inside and outside of the Dalhousie community as necessary (i.e. in-house writing centre services, studying for success program/tutoring) Encouraging students to use in-house services (i.e. writing Centre services). Directing individuals/ groups with inquiries regarding advising and supportive counseling to the Black Student Advisor. Performing light housekeeping duties (i.e. cleaning microwave, fridge, surface areas, floors, periodically emptying the recycling bins) Notifying the Black Student Advisor and technological supports of any issues arising when applicable Maintaining daily statistical data of services provided and used by and for students. Collect students and community members contact information Regularly revise and add this new contact information into BSACs MyDal account and its listserve.

Qualifications: A solid understanding of the history of BSAC, the diverse composition of Black folks residing in the Maritimes, as well as Africentric philosophy. Excellent and demonstrated (verbal/written and non-verbal) communication skills, organizational and interpersonal skills are essential. Must have computer proficiency (i.e. the ability to use MS Office, email, fax, scan, print, Facebook, and Twitter.) Knowledge of how to use Photoshop, SARS and SurveyMonkey.com is considered to be an asset. Must be able to work independently as an individual and collectively within a group. Rate of Pay: $10.30/hr for 7-10 hours weekly.
