Rubber Stamp Effect

In this tutorial, we will create an effect that looks like a stamp created using those rubber ink stamps.. Start a new document, large enough to place your stamp on. For this tutorial, I am using 250x 50. !ow, select RED as your foreground color, and your background color to BLACK

"hen use the type tool and type in your text. #se a bold font, I used $rial %lack, si&e 50px. !ow go to Layer Rasterize Type ' this will con(ert the (ector text to bmp. !ow use the rectangular mar)uee tool and make a selection $*+#!, the text.... !ow go to Edit Stroke

3hat we4(e 5ust done is select $00 the black spots on the stamp so we can delete it from our stamp.. creating the stamp effect. So with the selection selected, hit ,606"6 .. you can hit delete se(eral times to make sure its all deleted.

Step 8 *ight click on )F o&er+ layer and choose )Dup icate ayer+ to make a copy of flower layer. $pply /aussian blur effect, >filter ? blur ? gaussian blur@ to this layer. 2eep the radius as 2 pixel. !ext, mo(e the )F o&er copy+ layer below )F o&er+ layer and set the opacity to 50A.

!ow comes the fun part, applying flames effect to the flower imageB #sing smudge tool spread the edges of the lea(es.

Step 5 For the background flame effect, take any fire image which is suitable for your flower image. 9ere I ha(e used fire.png image. *ename the layer as )F ame+. #sing smudge tool spread the edges of the flames, repeat this process until you see the following result.

"hen mo(e the )F ame+ layer below CF o&er copy+ layer. 1hange the layer style to ,Li$!te#, and set the opacity to 20A.

Step 7 !ow we are coming (ery close to the ultimate burning flower effect. "ake any fire image and cut the flames from it and keep this )F ames+ layer below )F o&er copy+ layer. Do(e those cut flames to the suitable area of the flower image and blend the flames with flower image using smudge tool. :lease see below images to understand this process better.

Step . *epeat step 7 for all the areas of flower image where you want the flames to come out.

"his tutorial will show you how to create a fire effect then use the animation tools to create a flaming animation, and sa(e it as an animated /IF.. For this tutorial, lets start off with a black background, you can put the end result on any background you like, but for (isibility4s sake, we4ll use black. 0ets start with a 700x200 can(as, use the paint bucket tool and fill the background layer with black

!ow duplicate this layer < times. "o duplicate a layer, 5ust press 1"*0JG. So now you should ha(e 8 white blur layers in total, hide the top < layers by clicking on the eye icon in the layers

pallete, lea(ing only the bottom blur layer (isible. $lso, select this layer as the working layer.

!ow in your toolbox, select the smudge tool

Set the brushsi&e to about 85 px S+F"6,/6 brush, and set the strength to about .0A

!ow use the smudge tool to smudge the white blur layer by click and drag from the bottom up, on your way up, cur(e to the left or right to create the wa(e effect of the flame.

!ow repeat this until you4(e smudged the whole way from left to right. In between, you may want to switch to different >smaller@ brush si&es to create flame wa(es of (arious si&es.

!ow, hide this blur layer, and show the next layer up.

!ow repeat the smudging step for this layer, try to keep the height of your flames similar to the pre(ious layer.

*epeat this process for the remaining 2 blur layers. *emember to try and make the flames as similar to the pre(ious as possible. "his will create a smoother animation. $fter this, you should ha(e 8 layers of smudged white blurs, which supposedly resemble flames. now mo(e onto the animation part. If you are working with :hotoshop . or older, then you need to switch to imageready to do the animation. In photoshop 1SH1S2, if you dont ha(e the animation palette open already, go to 3indow K and check $nimation. =ou will then ha(e an animation pallete like so...

+n this first frame, we can lea(e as is, now lets create a 2nd frame, to do this, 5ust click on the Enew frameE icon >shown abo(e@, !ow you should ha(e 2 frames, exactly the same, but now, what we do on the 2nd frame will be different to the first frame, >hence the animation@, so on the 2nd frame, hide the current displaying layer, and make of the other layer (isible.

So on frame , we ha(e the top layer (isible-

9ere is another result, with this one, I set the highlight strength to 5 instead of 5.

3e#t %e/re goi"g to apply a layer to slightly desaturate the botto half of the i age& !his is so that the top looks like it has a %ar er glo% %here the fla es are+ %hile the botto looks a little colder& So create a "e% layer a"d fill it %ith the color BEbEfDb& !he" add a layer gradie"t to ask out the top a"d fade do%" 9so you get the effect sho%":& 3o% set the layer to @olor a"d ECK 6pacity& ask %ith a

Part 2AText+ Glow= Awesomeness

6L+ %e "o% have a "ice backgrou"d= So let/s add so e te#t& (/ve used the fo"t !ra1a" because it/s a really dra atic looki"g fo"t& Here (/ve placed the te#t i" the color BcbAD2J+ the" set it to 0i"ear 7odge 9Add: %ith a" 6pacity of JK& What %e/re goi"g to be doi"g %ith our te#t is aki"g it look like the top half of the te#t is co i"g out of the backgrou"d a"d is red hot %ith fla es flickeri"g off& !his ea"s %e/re goi"g to ru" a lot of effects a"d apply layer asks to the so that o"ly the top half sho%s %hile the botto half reverts to faded out te#t like %e have curre"tly&

So first create a "e% layer group to put all the te#t layers i"Hbecause there %ill be a lot of the & !he" duplicate the te#t layer a"d set the color of the duplicate te#t to BCeDf)c&

3o% set the "e%est te#t layer to 6verlay a"d M-K 6pacity& (t should look ki"d of reddish 9as sho%" belo%:&

3o% duplicate the te#t again a"d set the latest duplicate to a yello%ish colorHBcbAD2J& !he" set this to 0i"ear 7odge 9Add: a"d 6pacity D-K& 3e#t %e add a layer ask a"d dra% a gradie"t so the latest te#t layer fades out as sho%" belo%+ a"d be"eath you ca" see the reddish colored co bi"atio" of the botto t%o te#t layers&

3e#t %e duplicate the te#t layer yet agai"+ but put this layer right o" the botto & Set the color to blackHB------& !he" go to Filter I Blur I Gaussia" Blur a"d it %ill ask you to rasteri4e the te#t+ click yes to that+ a"d the" set the ;adius to about Ep#& !he" @trl8click a"y of the other te#t layers a"d go back to the black layer a"d hit delete so you are 1ust left %ith a sort of shado%& !he" duplicate this layer a"d erge it %ith the first so the effect is heavier& 5ou should have so ethi"g that looks like the scree"shot belo%&

3o% duplicate our black layer agai" a"d usi"g the S udge !ool 9;: a"d a largish soft brush you %a"t to 1ust s udge the shado% arou"d so it looks like bur" arks&

Here/s ho% our te#t is looki"g "o%& ( actually created t%o sets of Nbur"N four sets of the shado% layer each blurred a little back& arks+ a"d the" ore tha" the last a"d each faded

3o% it/s ti e to ake the top part of our te#t glo%& So first of all+ duplicate the te#t layer again a"d place this layer at the very top a"d set it to a yello% colorHBdcAa-J& !he" ru" a Filter I Blur I Gaussia" Blur over it %ith ;adius of Jp#& !he" grab a large soft eraser brush a"d 1ust erase a%ay parts at the botto so it/s ki"d of u"eve"&

Set our first glo% layer to Soft 0ight& 5ou ore so the top part is eve" glo%ier& ight %a"t to repeat the process+ erasi"g eve"

!his is actually a really+ really useful tech"i.ue for copyi"g so ethi"g tra"sluce"t like fire off a flat backgrou"d& A"d as you/ll see by visiti"g 3ik/s tutorial+ it/s also great for copyi"g %ater=

3o% the "e#t thi"g to do is to cut up our o"e bit of fire i"to a fe% pieces& Fust duplicate the layer a"d s%itch off o"e as a backup first& !he" usi"g the Pe" !ool+ cut up the fire so you %ork %ith the co"tours of the fla e so it looks "atural& Here you ca" see (/ve produced four pieces of fla e fro the o"e i age& 5ou ca" also try flippi"g bits arou"d to ake the see ore ra"do & Set the layers to Scree" ode so that a"y re ai"i"g black parts are totally go"e+ a"d it/s eve" ore tra"spare"t&

Applyi"g the fire is really as easy as ovi"g the fla es over the te#t& 5ou %a"t to try to atch the fla es to the shape of the letter so it looks like they are da"ci"g off the letters&

Luminescent Lines

Here we will create some thin flowing lines that look as if they emit light. This technique is fairly simple and is a great way to create an abstract wallpaper or looks good integrated into another image. This tutorial will mainly explore the brush engine and you will also learn how to create custom brushes and use them effectively, combined with some interesting layer styles.

This tutorial will show you how to create an image similar to this$

STEP 1
tart by creating a new document, here I used %&'(x)*+px and )'dpi. ,sing the paint bucket tool -./ fill the background layer with black, alternatively you could use a dark gradient instead. 0lick the brush tool -1/ then change the settings of this brush to a %px round, white brush with &2 hardness. 0reate a new layer then select the pen tool -P/ and in the main toolbar make sure paths is selected, now start slightly outwith the canvas on the left then using about four points draw a curve with a similar shape to the one below. "ight click anywhere inside the document then select stroke path, make sure simulate pressure is checked then hit #3. 4astly hit the 5sc key twice

STEP 2
6ow hold 0trl and click on the layer with this curve in it, in the layers panel, this should make a selection around the line. 6ext go edit7define brush preset and save that curve as a brush. 8ou can now hide this layer by clicking the eye next to it in the layers panel. elect the brush tool again then bring up the brush settings by going window7brushes. 0hoose the brush that you 9ust made then use the same settings as below.

STEP 3
0reate a new layer to hold our lines. #kay we now want to use this brush to create the lines in the picture so first drag from the left of the canvas to the right until you end up with something that resembles the image below. 6ot

that each line is slightly different, this is because in settings we made it change angle and roundness.

STEP 4
6ow we will make the lines glow so right click on this layer in the layers panel then select blending options. ,se the settings shown below for a drop shadow and an outer glow. 6ote that although we used a drop shadow we are still using it to create a glowing effect this is because we changed the blend mode of this effect from multiply to normal.

STEP 5
"ight click this layer then select duplicate layer to make an exact copy. 6ow go into the blending options for this layer and the only thing we want to change is the gradient to the the other rainbow one because you will notice

there

are

two

different

rainbow

gradients,

one

has

transparent

edges

and

one

doesn:t.

STEP 6
#ptionally now you can blend out some of the ends of these lines by either using the erasor tool on both layers or a better way to do it would be to put both these layers in a new group then create a layer mask a paint it out some

parts.

STEP 7
Here I added some beads on the line, this can be done using the same technique from step ; to step < except use a small 'px or ;px round brush instead of the brush that you made yourself.

STEP 8
6ow create a new layer and select a large soft brush then change the foreground color to a bright color and brush some random shapes. "epeat this with a few diifferent colors to end up with an effect like this.

6ext go filter7blur7gaussian blur and use a value of around %&&px then change the blend mode of this layer to color. I:ll let you decide what opacity this layer should be but I used about <&2.
