SYNOPSIS The course deal with the engineering activities concerned with the exploitation of chemical reactions on a commercial scale. Its goal is the successful design and operation of chemical reactors which set the chemical engineering apart as a distinct branch of engineering profession. Thus, in designing and operating chemical reactors, the discussions on important topics of strong fundamentals in chemical kinetics, type of reactors and simple to more complex design approach are included. O$%ECTIVES Upon completion of this course, students should be able to: 1. !. %. &. pply principles related to chemical reactions to determine rate kinetics. "erform basic design and predict the operating performance of different types of reactors e.g. batch, continuous stirred tank and tubular flow reactors for single#multiple reactions under isothermal and non$isothermal conditions. pply the principles of catalytic reactions and design simple heterogeneous reactors. pply the knowledge of this sub'ect in carrying out chemical engineering pro'ects.
