MUSTAFATINI GOES TO MUSTAFA’S HOUSE

A: Selamat siang Good afternoon.


Pak Mustafa ada di rumah? Is Mustafa at home?
B: O, tidak ada. No, he is not.
Silakan masuk. Please come in.
A: Bapak siapa? Who are you?
B: Saya abang Mustafa. I am Mustafa’s older brother.
A: O, Bapak Pak Ali? Oh, are you Ali?
B: O, bukan. Saya Mahmud. Oh, no. I am Mahmud.
Tante ini siapa? Who are you?
Namanya siapa, Tante? What is your name?
A: Nama saya Tini. My name is Tini.
B: Silakan duduk, Tante Tini. Please sit down.
Anu, Tante Tini orang mana? Um, what country are you from?
Apa Tante orang Belanda? Are you Dutch? orang=person
A: O, bukan. Saya orang Amerika. Oh, no. I am American.
B: Apa Tante Tini kenal Mas Mustafa? Do you know Mustafa?
A: O ya, dia teman saya. Dan dia juga Oh yes. He is my friend. And he is
guru saya. also my teacher.
B: O, Tante yang sedang belajar bahasa Oh, you are the one who is studying
Indonesia, bukan? Indonesian, aren’t you?
A: Ya, betul. Saya sedang belajar bahasaYes, I am. I am studying Indonesian.

B: Kenal Dik Ali, Tante? Do you know Ali?

C: Selamat siang, Tante. Apa Tante Tini Good afternoon, Mam. Can you
bisa berbahasa Indonesia? speak Indonesian?

C: Belajar bahasa Indonesia sekarang, Are you studying Indonesian now?
Tante?
A: Ya, betul. That’s right.
C: Siapa gurunya? Who is the teacher?
A: Pak Mustafa, abang Dik Ali. Mustafa, your older brother.

There are ways to form an interrogative sentence in Indonesian.


The easiest way is to put a question mark at the end of a statement.
For example:

Statements Questions
1. Anda mahasiswa/You’re a student. 1. Anda mahasiswa?/Are you a student?
2. Bapaknya dosen/His father is a professor. 2. Bapaknya dosen?/Is his father a professor?
3. Dia lapar/She is hungry. 3. Dia lapar?/Is she hungry?

There are also question words that you can use to form an
interrogative sentence. Note: “apa” at the beginning of an
interrogative sentence serves as “is/am/are or do/does/did or
has/have/had” at the beginning of an English interrogative sentence.

APA = WHAT

1. Apa hobimu?/Hobimu apa? What is your hobby?

2. Apa warnanya?/Warnanya apa? What is the color?

3. Apa ejaannya?/Ejaannya apa? What is the spelling?

4. Apa hurufnya?/Hurufnya apa? What letter is it?

SIAPA = WHO

5. Siapa nama ibu Mas? What is your Mom’s name?

6. Siapa pacarnya? Who is his girlfriend?

7. Mbak tinggal dengan siapa? Who do you live with?

8. Mas belajar dengan siapa? Who do you study with?

MANA =WHERE

9. Mbak dari mana? Where are you from?

10. Mas mau pergi ke mana? Where are you going (to)?

11. Di mana kopi saya tadi? Where was my coffee (at)?

BAGAIMANA = HOW

12. Bagaimana kabarnya? How are you?

13. Bagaimana rasanya? How do you feel?/What does it taste like?

14. Bagaimana udaranya? What is the weather like?

BERAPA = HOW MANY/HOW MUCH

15. Mbak berapa tingginya? How tall are you?

16. Berapa saudara Mas? How many siblings do you have?

17. Berapa jauh rumah Mas dari kampus? How far is your house from campus?

18. Berapa kilo beratmu? How many kilos do you weigh?

19. Mas tidur berapa jam tadi malam? How many hours did you sleep last night?

20. Jam berapa filemnya? What time is the movie?

21. Berapa dolar harga sepedamu? How much [how many dollars) is [the price

of] your bike?

MENGAPA/KENAPA = WHY

21. Mengapa Mbak mau ke Indonesia? Why do you want to go to Indonesia?

22. Mengapa naik mobil? Why do you drive?

23. Mengapa tidak? Why not?
