Booting Into Single User Mode 1.

As the machine boots up, and enters the grub menu, hit the space bar to interrupt the automatic boot process.

2. At "Boot Options", remove the present text, and enter:

linux 1

Booting Into Single User Mode ( linux -> we want to boot from linux kernel. 1 -> we want to start up the linux kernel at boot level 1, single user mode.)

3. The machine will boot off of the linux kernel, and get to the point where it will ask you for a password.

Enter the root password.

4. Confirm you are on the correct system, and right runlevel.

Type:

runlevel

Result should be:

1 S

Type:

hostname

Result should be:

Whatever host you are on.

5. When done with your work, reboot the box:

reboot

This should reboot the box into its normal runlevel.
