S1iita e mus1room, t1e common 4a5anese name for Lentinus edodes /*i0. %2, derives from t1e mus1room associated 6it1 t1e s1ii tree /Castanopsis cuspidate Sc1ott y2 and take, t1e 4a5anese 6ord for mus1room /-able %2. 7ecause 4a5an is t1e 6orld leader in 5roduction of t1is ty5e of mus1room, t1e mus1room is no6 6idely no6n by t1is name. -1ese mus1rooms are reno6ned in *ar East countries /e.0., 4a5an, C1ina, !orea2 as a food and medicine for t1ousands of years. In t1e year "88 A.'., !yusuyu, a native tribe of 4a5an, offered t1e 4a5anese Em5eror C1uai a s1iita e mus1room.
