Introduction

In todays increasing environmental concerns and growing energy needs, alternative sources of energy have to be explored. With the rapidly exhausting reserves of nonrenewable energy sources, it has become a leading matter to investigate sources of renewable energy and implement systems that develop them. One such alternative source is solar energy. Why solar energy? Solar energy is clean, competitive and sustainable. It can be installed on anything from a rooftop to a large power plant. The source of this energy, which is the sun, is safe and limitless. Using our progressing technology, we can convert this energy directly into electricity without causing harm to the environment thus helps solve todays energy challenges. Harnessing the sun for the benefit of mankind has been evolving through the pass of time. In this thesis, we will discuss the potential of exploiting solar energy in the Philippines by conducting an investigation in the City of Olongapo, a rural area that is now a 1st class highly urbanized city that houses a population of more than 200,000 citizens. As the city of Olongapo constantly develops, the demand for a more cost effective energy source also intensifies. Significance of the Study

The researchers intended to determine the workability of establishing a solar power plant on Olongapo City, Philippines. The project would be a considerable alternative source of energy for the said city. This study will serve as the basis for future plans of action by the local government. Furthermore, this study will function as a reference for upcoming studies of the same nature if ever the current problem that has been tackled in this case will exist in the future. This study will be beneficial to future researchers, and it will supply them the facts needed to contrast their study during their respective time and usability.
