Title: Aim: Equipment: Antenna radiation with distance Measuring Antenna radiation with distance Antenna trainer kit.

Fig.: Experimental setup Theory: The object of this exercise is to study the variation in the radiation strength at a given distance from the antenna. The detector will show a higher strength when it is nearer to the transmitting antenna & shall reduce gradually with increasing distance.

Observations: Sr. No. 1 2 Procedure: Functional Checks: Distance In Ft. Detector Current

1. Check the AC mains input voltage and switch ON the trainer. The pilot lamp should glow, indicating DC power supply is OK. 2. Check the output of Tone Generator on the oscilloscope (frequency 1 KHz approx. ) by connecting probe at AF OUT terminal. Vary the level of tone generator & see that it varies from 0 to 2 V peak to peak. This confirms proper functioning of tone generator. 3. Turn the RF level to minimum and FS adjust to maximum. Put coupler switch to FVVp. Increase RF level gradually from minimum to maximum. There will be indication in the meter. Change the switch from FWD to REV and see-that meter has deflection. This confirms working of RF generator & directional coupler 4. Install transmitting antenna mast on the main unit of the trainer and connect folded dipole on it. 5. Mount detector assembly on the detector stand in horizontal plane and keep it approx. 1ft away from the main unit. Align both transmitting and receiving antenna in line keeping same heights. When the RF level is increased or decreased, the detector meter will show the deflection indicating that the system is functioning. 6. Rotate the transmitting antenna between 00 3600 and the detector will indicate different values depending upon the radiation pattern of the antenna. 7. Connect AF output to modulation IN by banana patch cord. Check the sine wave output of tone generator on the oscilloscope and also similar output (slightly distorted and with noise) on the out terminal of the detector. This confirms that the transmitting antenna transmits modulated signal which is detected by detector and available on OUT terminal for verification. Antenna radiation with distance 15. Arrange the setup as given in diagram. 16. Mount antenna on the transmitting mast. 17. Keep detector unit at distance of approx. 1 ft from transmitting antenna & align it. 18. Adjust RF level & detector unit so that the reading is maxi. 19. Note the above reading for 1 ft distance. 20. Move the detector to 2 ft distance. 21. Note the above reading for 2 ft distance. 22. Similarly take the readings for 3, 4, 5 & 6 feet 23. Plot the graph of reading with distance & see it is linear or non linear

Conclusion: The plotted graph of distance Vs. detector assembly reading is linear/ non linear

Connect tone generator output to oscilloscope & check that sine wave is coming. Keep the level of tone generator to max. Connect tone output to modulation in with the help of patch chords. Observe signal at the out terminals of detector assembly with the help of oscilloscope probe. It should be sine wave of low & slightly distorted but indicating that this audio signal was transmitted & received by the antenna. 8. Vary the level of tone generator & see that output of detector varies as you vary the level control of tone generator

Conclusion: The Frequency of output signal is same as per input signal but the amplitude of output signal is less as compared to input signal
