Prep Math Class: Period 1 Even

Ms. Levinson

http://prepmath.blogspot.com/

Welcome to Prep Math! I am looking forward to having a fun, exciting, and

challenging year with you.

We will be learning many interesting topics including: money, time, how to read bus
and subway maps, basic budget (including how to budget yourself and how to write
checks and keep a check book).

I. Daily Routine-

You are expected to be prepared when you come to class. You should be seated silently in
your seat before the bell rings with your notebooks open and pencils sharpened.

II. Supplies- Due September 14, 2009.

The following supplies must be in class everyday:

1. A loose-leaf binder with paper separated into the following sections:

a. classwork

b. homework

c. quizzes

2. One folder to be used for homework assignments to bring home and return to school the
following day. If you have a homework folder that you use for all classes, that will do. If
not, please label this folder “Prep Math- Period 1 – Ms. Levinson”

3. One calculator

4. An assignment pad that you can use for all classes (if you have one given to you by the
school, that will work just fine. If you are having trouble getting an assignment pad, let
me know.)

5. Two boxes of tissues (one time)

III. Class Expectations

1. Be respectful: Listen while others are talking, raise your hand and wait to be called on,
and treat others with kindness (I do not tolerate making fun of anyone).

2. Be responsible: Complete assignments that are given, follow directions, ask for help when
you need it, and participate in class lessons.

3. Be on time: When the bell rings you should already be in your seat with your materials out
and ready to work.

IV. Grading Policy

Your average is based on the following things:

Participation:

- Do Now Activities-- At the start of every class, you will be given a math problem to
solve. Answering the question correctly will be charted in the room and you will receive a
reward at the end of each semester depending on how many points you have earned.

- You will also earn participation points each class day. How can you earn points?

1. Be prepared to start working as soon as the bell rings.

2. Have your homework completed from the previous night.

3. Raise your hand and answer questions.

4. Help your peers when they need it.

-Test/Quizzes--Tests and quizzes will be given at the end of each unit. We will prepare
for tests and quizzes with in-class review sessions.

-Homework- Homework assignments will vary. You are responsible for completing every
assignment. If you are absent, you must make up the work you missed. Missing three or
more assignments will result in a lunch detention and a phone call home.

V. Extra Help- Extra help is offered after school Monday and Wednesday from 2:20 to
2:50 in the Resource Room- B 166. Additional hours during the school day will be
announced.
